This is a great thread to use as an example of why an English degree isn't a waste of time.

Reading comprehension. It's important.

Do you ever add anything that isn't a back-handed, cowardly aside aimed at mocking other posters?

If you do, I must have missed it due to my lack of reading comprehension.

Oh, and, by the way, I do have an English degree.  It obviously didn't help me any.

I'm not mocking anyone.  Now you're getting caught up in subtext.

Like Cool Hand Luke, this thread has been six pages of failure to communicate.

Well, as someone with a degree in English, I've been taught to read for subtext.

I am also arguing that--at least I was until I got side tracked--finishing the season on a strong note has a shot of having as much, if not more, value to the future success of this team as tanking for the highest pick possible.

I don't have any statistics or data to prove my last point, unfortunately. But, I do believe that having good players who are capable of winning basketball games together can be a good thing for building a team.

Those two bolded points don't seem to have much to do with each other.

Really.

Having good players is part of having a good team (QED), but going on a late-season win streak won't turn our players into good players.

No.  But, I don't see how we can go on a late-season win streak if we don't have good players.

post hoc ergo propter hoc

Although actually that would be a false conditional.

Maybe it is a fallacy, but I tend to accept it as a truth that you can't be a good team in the NBA without good players.

You win, though.  Your brain is the biggest brain of them all.

"If our team wins games, our team must have good players" is a terrible conclusion to draw this late in the season. You know it, I know it. Especially when we're talking about the same team that has already gone 22-43.

You can't honestly tell me you believe that if we go 11-6 the rest of the way we suddenly have a good team full of good players. That's mindbogglingly stupid.

see, this is me being condescending.

It's not the same team that's gone 22 and 43.  Two significant differences are that we didn't have Rajon Rondo for the majority of the 65 completed games and Kelly Olynyk has improved significantly as the season has progressed.

Thank you for being more up front about calling me stupid.  I appreciate your new found courageousness.
