Providing Ainge wants to be competitive sooner rather than later and gets into the thick of the trade market this summer, who should we go after? I suppose we should be somewhat realistic, but let's fill out the 2-5 spot via trade for fun here.
Mine
SG Arron Afflalo: This guy is a career 39% 3 point shooter, need i say more? He is also having a career season, albeit on a bad team. What we can count on though is this dude being an excellent 3 point shooter, very sound defensively, and a very committed ball player. Arron might cost a pretty penny due to his play this year, but he's worth it. He is a massive upgrade over Bradley and makes Green a second option by default, which is for the best.
C Omer Asik: Asik is a true defensive anchor and elite rebounder, something i think we're all starving for. I also think at this point he can be had for a decent price. What i love about him is that he expires in 2015, so if he doesn't work out for any reason, we're not stuck. We can then make a run at Hibbert or Deandre.
SF/PF Carmelo Anthony: Here's my longshot, the best scorer in the Eastern Conference Carmelo Anthony. If we could land Afflalo and Asik, i think we have a shot. We need to have some [dang] good pieces in place like the aforementioned for him to take us seriously. I definitely believe he would be very interested in playing with Rondo, but we'd need a legit center and a 2 like Arron for him to honestly think it was worth it. A sign and trade could happen if we gave NY some much needed picks and prospects.
My dream starting 5 next year is
Rondo/Afflalo/Green/Melo/Asik.
Vs bigger lineups
Rondo/Afflalo/Melo/Hump/Asik
