I know people are going to blow this post up. Now alot of people are saying how important this draft is. But what about 2015? What if Parker and Embiid stay in school? This affects that draft alot. I would also try and get an extra 2015 pick. The Clippers pick will be late. I would like to see an extra top ten pick for next year.

If parker and embiid are staying at school, aren't we looking at 2015 draft picks?

And a missing comma? I'm not sure how to read the title of the thread. Is the OP exhorting us to cast our gaze towards the future, or is the OP asking for a list of potential draftees?

If Parker and Embiid stay for another year (for any reason other than injury), I'll buy a Kobe Jersey.

we should be looking for picks in any future draft.  thought that went without saying.

in any case, Parker and Embiid are coming out this year.  next year figures to be pretty solid, especially with bigs.  We should still miss the playoffs next year so we should be able to land a very nice prospect again next year to really get the team back on the upswing.

I think Parker could potentially stay for another year for the same reason that Joakim Noah passed up being a possible first overall pick: to try and win a title.

Marcus Smart did the same thing last year. It happens.

I don't think both of them stay in school, though. And that'd be the only reason for me to buy a Lakers no. 24.

Yeah, but I think we're kind of seeing why that doesn't always work out. Another year in college means another year of scrutiny + more time for scouts to pick at flaws. Take our own Sullinger for a moment - projected to be a high lottery pick but staying in school. A combo of back issues and questions about his athleticism dropped him to #21 the following year. That's a lot of money he gave up by staying an additional year.

Frankly, unless you're really committed to another year of exploring the, uh,  physically intimate  extracurricular activities that are afforded an NBA-bound player at a massive, D-1 school, it makes little sense to stay any longer than you have to.

As far as making money's concerned, anyway. Everyone should make an effort to get as educated as they please.

A player jumping to the NBA doesn't mean he can't finish his education - Steph Curry and Jeff Green both completed their degrees. Just means (in theory anyway) they have to foot their own bill.

Right. I was talking more about the tiny sliver of actual "student-athletes" who use their athletic scholarships to pay for their undergraduate studies.

and when I say tiny sliver I mean the vast majority of college athletes that don't make it to the pros.
