No. This team is EXTREMELY far from a playoff team as currently constituted.
You are what your record says you are.
Well right now the Celts are 20 games below 500.
They need to add at least 2-3 really good players.
Yes, but... we might not be able to.
In fact, the most likely outcome this summer is that: we draft a couple players, and sign Rondo to an extension.
It is highly *unlikely* that there will be any really big trades. That is just the nature of this business, and that is the nature of rebuilding. Doesn't happen overnight.
Rondo's not signing an extension. Danny can offer him as much as he's allowed to, and Rondo's not re-upping. Part of it is that he needs to see what kind of team he's going to have around him, but I think he's made it clear that he wants to be fawned over a little bit in free agency.
Moreover, if Danny *doesn't* make a move to get the team moving forward next season, there's a real good chance that Rondo lets it be known that he won't re-up.
And, I don't see Rondo as holding any loyalty to the team, nor would I expect him to. I'm sure he's loyal to his boys, but they're all playing in Brooklyn right now. He certainly doesn't/shouldn't feel any particular loyalty to Danny. Rondo will re-up if the money is right and if he's convinced the team will be championship-caliber within a fairly short period.
