An SB Nation feature has the Celtics picking Tyler Ennis with their very first draft pick.

I can't even wrap my head around all of the problems this would cause.

Can you say the Rebuild Bridge to Nowhere?

Also that mock doesn't have the correct order of picks, safe to throw it in the dustbin.

Yeah, I don't see that happening.  With the 6th pick too? Yikes.

Sorta sounds like someone has an ax to grind with Rondo judging by the blurb too.

Quote
6. Boston Celtics - Tyler Ennis, PG - Syracuse

Syracuse has begun to slip a bit, but don't blame Ennis. The team's heady point guard continues to show why he's one of the best players in the nation.

If the Celtics want to know what it feels like to have a team-first, smart, young point guard who can knock down an open jump shot, they'll draft Ennis here and shop Rajon Rondo.

I have a hard time seeing Danny taking Ennis over Smart.  I think some GMs would do it, but I don't see Danny being one of them.  While I don't think Smart is at the top of Danny's board, he fits the description of the type of player he has really loved in the past.  Athletic, competitive, tough, slashing combo-guard who can defend his position.

Ennis seems to be a smart player, but I don't think he has the physical characteristics that Danny would look for that high in the from a guard.

It's almost like whoever wrote the article doesn't know what they're talking about.

I can't see Danny drafting any player who's primarily a PG without already having a Rondo trade in place.  Mainly because our leverage in moving Rondo plummets with a PG prospect on the roster.  I also can't see Ennis going #6 to anyone, but who knows.

Fixed that for you. I can't see it happening.

Unless Ennis improves his shooting percentage , he is not going 6th. Otherwise he has a world of upside and regularly packs his stats with rebounds, assists and steals (a few games now 4 or more)

Plays a mature game. But also struggles dealing with quickness. He regularly directs guys to come help him and set picks so he can try to lose his man.  Not sure how much better his body can get in terms of adding quickness

Like someone else said, Marcus Smart would be a better choice.

Also people shouldn't be surprised if Danny drafts a 2nd PG or Hybrid guard with one of our picks for insurances purposes if Rondo leaves. If Rondo gives no indication he wants to stay,  or we get overpaid, Danny will trade Rondo.

The "Rondo can't shoot" argument is getting really old. Do these people know its not 2009? Also, do they understand what statistics are? Rondo has become a pretty decent shooter. His elbow jumper numbers are very good. In fact, the only shooting-related hole in his game at this point is the FT, and that seems to be much better this year (obviously a small sample size, but still).

Makes some sense if Boston intends to trade Rondo on draft day ... which I say has a 0.1% chance of happening.  Rondo is a lifer here.  Well... at least until Summer 2015.

I'd be pretty surprised if Danny took a guard like Ennis in the draft.  Smart or Exum I could see.  Danny seems to like guys with non-prototypical size or notable physical gifts (a few years back he reportedly loved Tyreke Evans).

I could see Danny taking Smart, especially, if we end up with a pick outside of the top 5 and he feels that other GMs are significantly undervaluing Smart for one reason or another.

Ennis seems like he'll probably be a Teague / Lowry / Chalmers sort of point guard.  Very solid but not really remarkable in any aspect, good or bad.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

His elbow jumper has been good, but the sample size is pretty small so far this season:

More concerning is his inability to finish around the rim, but I think that's coming back as his comfort level returns.
