so i guess kobe is overraed too. when did we see kobe pass the ball in his prime.

and how can you be a selfish passer....

ball handling and passing is rondos game theres no one on the court you rather see have the ball then rondo thats just a weakness that come with something he does so valuable. he wont change his game.

rondo just needs to grow as a leader and with help he could pick his spots better

That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying that if your best basketball quality is distributing, you better run a team that moves the ball well and efficiently.

Kobe was a scorer, and a great one at that. His game was not passing, so your first comment isn't that relevant to the scout's assessment of Rondo.
so him standing around while the balls moving fits his game? how????

and im pointing out a flaw to kobes game the same way he does for rondos game how you not see that

There's a minor amount of truth.  Sometimes Rondo looks for the assist -- even at the sake of pounding the ball -- rather than moving the ball.  Rondo sometimes chases stats.

Overall, though, the scout doesn't have any credibility.  Frankly, whatever organization employs him should fire him for being incompetent.

Deadspin called him a 'troll scout' and they're right. Say outrageously negative things with the smallest origins of truth and present them as fact = troll scout

leaving aside the scout's POV on Rondo (and yes, there's some truth to his, I actually thought the overall article is one of the most ( / only) productive things Chris Broussard has ever done.

He's also been maybe the best player on the Boston Celtics team the last couple of years, too.

Delete the maybe from that sentence.

On one of many Rondo threads, I ranked him as the 21st best PG.

Even though the Celtics couldn't trade him and Birthdaygate happened, my opinion hasn't changed - still #21.

Yes it is true imo. Thats why i dislike his game ever since 2013 year. Worse is how he walks up mid court 90 percent of tge time , instead attacking the defense while they r trying to get organized. The 2008-2012 rondo was much better for my liking. Just all over the place

Cant blame rondo 100 percent for how he plays today though. Alot of it has to do with Doc.

Rondo is playing a little different these days which is good to see. For example if the guy your guarding is buried under the basket, make a run for it, get a lob pass, to try to get a transition basket. Even rondo had one which was nice to see

Source: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10523591/nba-ricky-rubio-overrated-goran-dragic-underrated-according-scouts?src=mobile

An anonymous scout told Chris Broussard (already lol'ing at this point):

Quote
"Three years ago, I was the only scout saying Rondo is overrated, and I was crucified for it. I was saying he was awful. I think he's a selfish player. He's only going to pass it to you if he thinks he can get an assist. I've seen him come out for pregame warm-ups with his shoes untied, shooting lefty foul shots. For him to come out for a game with that attitude makes me question his work ethic. I've never liked his game.

"If you play with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen at close to their peak, they're going to raise everyone's game. Defensively, Rondo's a bit of a gambler, and I don't think his defense is all that. If I was starting a team and had my choice of any point guard, he would be 40th. I mean it. I'd take some backups before him."

Obviously, this guy's overall point is ridiculous. Rondo is at worst a top ten point guard in this league, and in my opinion he's a top five point guard when healthy. But is there any truth to this "troll-scout" and his remarks?

It's probably true that he was the only scout saying that, and it's probably true he was crucified for it. That's probably what the people who are touting this don't see, that according to that scout everyone else disagreed with his assessment.

The Starters' said it best.

How selfish of Rondo to pass the ball to his teammate to get easier shots... This scout just hates Rondo. Too much so that he's willing to take a backup PG rather than him. That's absolutely ridiculous

I agree with the defense part, I think Rondo can play better defense instead of just gambling too much. But being selfish because he passes the ball for an assist? Get out of here.

Minor truth to the observation, but then way overblown conclusion. This scout probably got fired because he recommended passing on Rondo.

The minor truth is that he occasionally slows the offense, and there are specific times he's a bit careless and other times he decreases the team's overall chance of scoring on a possession by trying to get a slick assist than just taking a shot/layup, but the good far outweighs the bad.

I see more evidence that Bigfoot, or even that the Loch Ness Monster exists, than an NBA scout that believes there are 40 pgs better than Rondo. Even 40 players.

I know, when you consider how much more likely the team is to score off an assisted attempt complaining about his going for assists is like complaining about guys hustling too much or trying too hard on defense.

Outside of the obvious hyperbole with the 40 PGs, I agree that Rondo is not one of the first players or even first PGs I'd choose if trying to build a franchise from the ground up.

Believe it or not, assisted attempts may happen without Rondo giving the last pass. And they may as well be easier that the shots the team gets when Rondo is pounding the ball around looking for the spectacular play.

And in the land of particularly disturbing developments, Rondo seems to have no other mode but either pounding the ball, or dumping it off and sulking in the corner.

The thing is - even with CP3 being the best PG out there..how much has he won?

He's had David West, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin...all in their primes.

He's getting a hand-picked team to play around him this season (Doc Rivers, Glen Davis, DGranger)...

Even with that, there is still no guarantee how the Clips will fare vs HOU, MEM, Spurs, or OKC in a 7-game series.

If CP3 can't make it out of the West this time, will he get some of the scrutiny that Rondo gets?

I'm thinking not. It's not CP3's fault - he is a VERY complete PG.

But the Sports media seems to peg Rondo as an enigma, and I guess that he is one.
