I know there was some hoopla when he got dismissed from UNC last year, but hopefully he's learned his lesson?

From the scouting video, he looks like a solid 2-guard who can look good next to Rondo.

Should we try to nab him with the pick from Brooklyn? Thoughts?

Absolutely.  Strong, athletic shooter who can fill it up.  Torched the d-league. Perfect complement to Rondo and Bradley.

On court I think he'd be a great fit, and should be drafted in the range of the BKN/ATL pick mid to late first. Though I think some chatter had him climbing, not sure how real that is yet.

Luckily with the recent play of Atlanta and Brooklyn, our pick is climbing too!

Tarheel fan here! Seen all of Hairston's college games and follow the program real close.  He will be an excellent pro, unlimited range and plays with an edge! Does things that you can't teach.  Before he was dismissed from the team, Roy Williams ( during practice and summer pick up games ) Hairston looked better than any wing he has coached?!  That included Pierce, I didn't believe it when I saw it but then I saw Jay Williams on ESPN, say he played against Hairston this summer and he was dominating everyone.  If he didn't get dismissed he would have been an All-American and a lottery pick....sorry for the rambling but I feel very strong about him and his future as a pro...

Thanks Atlanta!

Brooklyn has been 6-4 over their last 10. I think they'll still end up a little bit above .500 which will easily keep them in the playoffs. Still its going to be a pretty good pick as it'll come from a bottom 3 playoff team in the east.

I've been thinking about this guy as a nice pick up too. What did he do to get dismissed and does that factor into why he wouldn't be a healthy addition? Is he a punk of sorts?

Seemingly ideal size and skill set for the 2G position.

We're currently getting the 16th pick overall from BKN. By the looks of it, this pick will probably be no worse than #18.

The latest mocks I've seen project Hairston in the mid-20s, though not sure how accurate this is at this point.

I like both Hairston and Stauskas. Hairston strikes me as the better 2 way player and I like the idea of a guard that can absorb contact and still finish. I think both will be able to score at the NBA in a variety of ways.

I like to end every post as insipidly as possible, so I'll just say that with the way this year's draft seems to be unfolding combined with the Nets underachieving, I'm just happy that we'll have a solid opportunity to draft a player with our second pick who's actually good.

I would have no qualms taking Hairston with the BKN/ATL pick.

If the Celtics could upgrade their wing in the 1st round (Hairston/Parker) or (Hairston/Wiggins), I'd be ecstatic.

Seemingly ideal size and skill set for the 2G position.

It all started with him getting arrested on weed and weapons charge, which was dropped.  Then he received benefits for rental cars etc...UNC and the NCAA did an investigation and UNC decided not to seek reinstatement.  I am guessing that UNC found out some things and just wanted to cut ties with him...Which is too bad because he stayed in school this year to "be the guy" unfortunately he made some mistakes and needed to be held accountable...

I wondered the same thing, so I looked it up...

He was originally suspended by NC for "receipt of impermissible benefits" based on NCAA rules.  He wasn't really dismissed by NC, they decided not to fight to reinstate him after their suspension of him I guess because the evidence was so strong that he accepted use of luxury rental cars.  He did have a couple other brushes with the law as well.

I don't know if all that is really enough of a black eye that we wouldn't draft him?

Since you are the Tarheel fan, maybe you can help us out.  Would any of these problems be red flags for DA in drafting him?  Doesn't seem like you think so.

I don't think so but I only know what we read online?  I have seen Roy Williams say a lot that he is a good kid that just made some mistakes?  I love the way he plays on the court.  He is fearless, will attack the rack and he is not afraid of the moment.  If he played this year he would be a lottery selection, he is that talented....

He played PF last year because UNC went small and held his own, he is ultra competitive.  Anti Jeff Green....Him and Paige would have been one of the best back courts in America this year.  I could see him being just like Jamal Crawford, instant offense off the bench...
