A heated debate has raged but I am not sure there was ever a specific poll.  This is a very clear simple question.  Some feel Rondo was the best player on the Celtics.  Others feel it was KG or Pierce.

I would love to get a large enough sample size to see where this comes out (not that it will settle anything).

The real answer, especially in the post season, is that they were a rotating cast of "bests" who were able to cover for each other when some weren't playing so well.

I voted no.

Best player?  Yes. Especially in those playoffs.

Most valuable to that team? No (KG was)

KG was the best player that year and every year he played in Boston.  I don't care what the stats say either.  He was a rock that showed up every single night can't say the same for Rondo.  Rondo may have had nights where he was the best player on the floor but if you take in the whole season as a whole it was KG, no doubt.

No.  Throughout the course of the season KG and PP were both better than Rondo.  The playoffs were different where the old guys faded a bit and Rondo really stepped up his game offensively (17.3 ppg for the playoffs).

Agreed. Any of the 3 were the best player on any given night. If I had to pick i would say that KG was the most irreplaceable player on that team. A defensive 7 footer is critical to a team's success. And in the playoffs he dropped an average of 19 and 10.

Take KG off and we still get to the ECF.
Take PP off and we still get to the ECF.
Take RR off and we still get to the ECF.

Rondo was the only reason (on our side) that we held with Miami.

Essentially Rondo was the best but only in a slim margin. Plus I think Rondo really helped KG and Paul be more effective than they did for Rondo

I said "Yes", but I do think KG was our most valuable player. Especially since unlike Rondo and PP, he didn't typically take nights off. In the Playoffs, I'd say it was a near tie with Rondo and KG.

As said, our most "Valuable" player was probably KG just because of the defense intensity everyone seemed to get.

As far as our "best" player - was easily and far away Rondo. I'd even go as far as putting him as the best player of the whole Playoffs. He was literally unstoppable.

Sure Pierce was still taking our last shot.
Sure KG was HUGE in our defense.

But, Rondo literally almost AVERAGED a triple double the whole playoffs. 17/12/7 (rounded) is an AMAZING stat line no matter who you are.

New rule - If you average that you're allowed to chest bump a referee once every 20 games.
Every year there are 6-7 teams with a lower winning percentage than our current record. I think we've gotten so used to ignoring the bottom feeders since 2008 that we've forgotten how bad some teams are.

Take KG off... we don't get to the ECF.

The other two, maybe.  The main reason we turned it around in 2012:

#1 - KG suddenly went vintage and dropped 20 and 10 a night while still being arguably the best defensive player in the league.  We allowed something like 12 fewer points when he was on the court.

#2 - We faced off against Horford-less Atlanta in Round 1

#3 - Rose got injured so we ended up facing off against a garbage 8th seed 76ers team in round 2... they still pushed us to 7 games.

#4 - Rondo filled up a stat sheet vs 21 year old Jeff Teague and whatever crap Philly was running at point.

Or in other words, Garnett was really the best player, but Rondo filled up the stat sheet.

I started this poll thinking that I had come up with a very simple yes or no question.  I don't get all the comments along the lines of x was best but y was most valuable.

This isn't about how good someone's back up is (which is part of the most valuable consideration I guess).  Who is the best player?

Help me out here.  How can I word this so it is as clear and simple as I wanted it to be?

People like to split the baby, *shrug*.

Its ingrained pattern from talk radio/shows to have a debate on "best" and "valuable" from MVP talk time.

You can't. If you want to know why, see my earlier post.
