Depends on what we got back.    I would want to keep the pick unless we get a superstar.   There is no promise that one of the top three will be a transcendent player, folks.   If we got a proven commodity I might trade it.

Top three? No, not unless we got something beyond great and I don't see that happening. I'd rather roll the dice on a young guy then trade him for an older guy I know's good.

Would much rather trade the pick, no matter what position, for a proven superstar who is in his prime or entering it than take a chance on some kid who is being hyped up like and could potentially fail really badly in the NBA.

Wasn't Danny saying the same thing the other day? These guys were hyped and potentially greatest of all time players when they were in high school. When they came to college, what happened? Like Danny said, reality hit them and most of that amazingness went out the window. It will be even worse when these guys enter the NBA and players like Durant, LeBron and Kobe get motivated against them since so many people talk about how these college kids can be better than the superstars. What's next? These guys will get destroyed by the superstars, lose their confidence and completely get destroyed when they have to go up against much more experienced players in LeBron, Melo, Durant, Rondo, Kobe, Howard, Duncan, KG, Paul George, Love, Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and countless others.

I'd much rather trade it and get a superstar with guaranteed chances of winning a championship right away than hope that whoever is picked lives out his hype as well as live in fear that he will not be able to live up it. There is already so much pressure on these kids, not everyone is like LeBron and can learn to handle it.

Danny has already said it countless times that he doesn't think this draft is as great as its made out to be.

I'd draft someone and keep him in a heartbeat

No. I keep the pick.

The only stars potentially on the block for a pick would be Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Love.

These talented rookies come with lower contracts than the all stars, leaving the celtics with enough cap space to run down a proven star in a couple years.

Then you get to have both the young stud and the established star. That to me is worth the risk.

TP I totally agree with this.  Kevin Love has a team that is probably better than the Celtics right now around him and he can't make the playoffs, even though he is playing world class offense.  His defense is awful and he's never made the playoffs once in his career.

Melo has been in the league 11 years already and he isn't making the playoffs this year, either.  I don't see how you could trade the pick to acquire one of these guys and see it as a good move, unless you are picking 8th or later.  Would I rather have the team spend $2 million on Vonleh or $20 million on a "star" who can't take his team to the playoffs?

If the package was something like Sully + the 11th overall pick + Philly's protected pick + the rights to swap with the Nets in 2017 + Bogans for Love, that's great.  If it is Wiggins for Love, we'd be getting hosed.

Absolutely keep it. God do not trade for Love or Melo. You need to build a team from within that's how OKC has done it and they'll win a title soon enough.

My assumption is yes, Ainge will trade the first pick for an "established" NBA big. I say "big" as that is the most difficult to obtain.

I put up a fanpost a few minutes ago on this exact topic with a poll. Spent four hours on it! I am an incompetent self editor.

Depends on the return, just like with the players.

for Russel Westbrook

I wouldn't trade a top 10 for him.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

keep it since I don't see Lebron or Durant being traded for that pick.  other than them, I keep it.

as mentioned above, the pick figures to be a top notch player on a rookie deal leaving us financial room to go after FAs in a couple of years.  much better situation than trading for a high-paid star, not having a young stud to go with him, and little to no financial room to sign good FAs

I know it's become kinda cliché, but if Danny can repeat what he did in 2007, that would be ideal.

Which was deal the pick for a really good veteran (like with Ray in '07) and then that lures another big name (like KG in '07) to agree to come to Boston, either via trade or free agency (Melo, Bosh, Love, Aldridge, etc.)

It's a superstar league. Like in 07, if you have 2-3 big names on one team, you are more than likely to win a title.

Exactly my point.
