Rondo skips trip to sacramento

C'mon..Brad changed his game? They new guy? Who stated his mindset? Not the GM trying to throw a bone just before a team friendly re-sign offer?

I don't see why it's so far-fetched for a rookie NBA coach to change his mind about something that's he's never been a part of before. This is a guy bringing his college ball mentality to the pros, don't forget.

Stevens certainly did not accuse the media of blowing the story out of proportion. Stevens said he talked to Rondo before the Sacramento game and again on Monday when the Celtics lost to Utah, but he wouldn't say what they talked about.

"All of that we're handling internally," Stevens said, "but we've sat down and talked. We did that Monday. In my mind, I'm moving forward. Then when Danny gets back to town, they can meet and we'll go from there."

"It wasn't a problem for me," Gerald Wallace said. "He doesn't plan back-to-backs anyway. So I don't see a big deal in it."

Rondo's absence in Sacramento was the talk of sports radio. Asked what he thought of the commotion he caused in the media, Rondo said, "I haven't really read much about it. I heard a lot of comments. Nobody knows the story so you guys keep making up every story you guys possibly can."

I also don't follow this line of thinking that Rondo has butted heads with every coach he ever had. I mean how come nobody ever says coaches have butted heads everywhere they've gone?  You mean they kept all their players happy all the time?

They're past this. Ainge said he spoke with Rondo and is satisfied with the conversation and learned some things he didn't know. There's no need for Rondo to admit anything to the media as long as there's an understanding with him, the coach, and the team.

Rondo's a smart guy. He knows the team is tanking, and he was not going to play in that game anyway. Why should he not stay in LA for his birthday? He also knows the celtics need to keep his reputation and trade value high, so they would let it slide. He was only named captain once he returned so that they could boost his trade value. Rondo is just taking it easy and getting himself back up to speed from his acl surgery and looking towards next year and beyond. That's what the celtics front office is doing as well.

I honestly don't think this is haunting Stevens. The team has to maintain a public image of trying to compete for the rest of the season, but Stevens, Ainge, and Rondo all know that's not true. Do you not sense the sarcasm in Rondo' s quotes about the celtics being a 6 game win streak away from a playoff spot? He's doing what the boss is asking, and so is Stevens. It's all good.

Sports is a strange alternate dimension of America where passion is automatically assumed to be correlated to greatness. This isn't true in real life at all. Like millions of other people, I like playing golf, but I suck at it. I like playing the guitar, but I suck at it. I like frosting cakes, but I suck at it. I really do. I don't know how you ice a cake without making the thing look like a wall that melted.

Whatever the case, the people complaining about HEART and MOTOR are engaging in a silly fantasy. They're trying to stuff football into a ridiculous ideal in which the people playing the game must care about it as much as these people do, at all times and at all costs.
