I want to defend rondo in this situation, and without knowing all the details i'd say wait n' see. but just from what I hear it sounds like he's in the wrong here. particularly since he's a "captain".

but the conspiracy theorist in me says this is all a plan concocted by ainge, stevens, & rondo to have rondo miss some games via suspension for the tank job.

if i'm wrong i'm extremely disappointed in rondo.

Does Rondo not have a phone? was it last year he got suspended from the league because he didn't call the league office back? :)

On it's face this seems like nothing, but what I'm wondering is who told Bulpett all this and why. For what purpose would a source close to the team make it known that internally they were upset with him?

Edit: And to my point, Ainge said "We handle all these kind of things internally"....

Well no, not really. For instance....what we're talking about at the moment.

Purely speculation on my part but probably an assistant coach who opened his mouth and probably didn't realize the implication of it.

Either that or some mid level person in operations who's part of the traveling team.

Ha...your guess is as good as mine!

I'm just not convinced its some part of a vast conspiracy to undermine Rondo or something although if it did come from some mid-level operations guy then it could very well be a message.

I found this kinda awesome and semi hilarious but that's just me. Kinda sums up the celtics season this year when you think about it.

Yeah like you, I have no idea where this came from. I figure it could have started from something as innocent as Bulpett honestly asking someone where Rondo was. I'm just suspicious because I would think anyone in the know wouldn't be naive enough to make a point of it being an unexcused absence, and expect to have it glossed over.

TP > Nickagenta

"Dumb move on Rondo's part. He should be setting an example for the young talent and if he wasn't given permission to be away from the team during a game, then he should have been at the game.

I really don't care if family was in town or it was his birthday. He's rich enough to have the whole family shipped up to Sactown where they could have had a party that night."

This almost exactly what I was about to write.

But I'll take it a step further. How about this? If you're the captain and you get paid $11 million per, how about you make your own decision to attend each and every one of the 82 games scheduled, whether or not you are even told you can take a game off?

The only valid reasons for taking a day off from work - missing a game - particularly with that paycheck and responsibility, are:

1. Death or serious illness in the family
2. Serious illness for yourself
3. Injury where it's best you don't travel with the team.
4. Serious personal family matter.
* These types of things

As Nick said, fly people to Sacto for a night. Party in the summer. Have a party after the game but take a late night flight to Sacto and be the first to the locker room or gym for the Sacramento game...

I ultimately don't think it's a massive issue, but I'd 100% expect an 82 game show for my captain (except for extreme conditions, death, illness, injury, family disaster, etc. -

I wouldn't think I'd even have to discuss that with him or any captain...

I don't pay you to party, I pay you to be the leader of the team.

I am guessing that deep down Rondo wants out of here. I love the guy, but expect to see him playing for someone else next year. Hope it is somewhere he has a chance to win another ring or two.

On a scale from one to Lebron this is an absolute one. He's Captain Kirk folks. He's smarter than most people around him and the rules don't really apply to him. Don't waste his time on a bench.  He should be high fived for the original thinking.

Spock: You cheated on the test.
Kirk: The test itself is a cheat.
Spock: The test is designed to teach the challenges of an unwinnable scenario.
Kirk: I don't believe in unwinnable scenarios.

If we try to win the scenario you end up losing a more important one. If Bird had done this nobody would have cared. If Tom Brady did something like this nobody would care. If David Ortiz did something like this nobody would care.

If Rondo were an artist he'd be Jackson Pollack
If he were a soldier he'd be the Viet Cong or something
If he were a musician he'd be Beethoven or a Jazz master.

He doesn't play by rules folks. He just shows up and kicks someone's wazoo. That's what leadership does. It kicks your enemy's wazoo and you get behind it.

What Sully did was a way way way bigger problem.

TP

I'd give you 2 ...can I?

My sig stays until they ban me because a lot of folks were not willing to accept that Doc did what he did. He ignored mail and turned his phone off and held the Celtics hostage while chatting with Sterlings men and SAS. Wyc stated later that it was all Doc's doing 100% and anyone who says otherwise is spinning. That's on the record. Doc hasn't denied that just he well was kinda tired and had done the rebuild once already.

Hey that's what Simmons said...just own it...and eventually he did but it was clear and lots of folks on here refused to believe it wasn't Danny forcing Doc out.

Now as soon as I saw Danny's morning radio show talking about a deal offered and rejected ..I knew right then he's gone. Danny goes on to say he's going to get a lot of money and interest from the market......sounds like agent talk? Nobody seeing that? Danny is on the otherside of the table...no? GM's don't talk up the value of players they need to resign?

Then trade rumors fly cuz they know Summer is a big deal because Danny made it clear that was the next stage because the previous stage was rejected as it shoulda been. Rondo went through the Trade rumors again and with more intensity because of Danny's smoke signals on that morning show.

This is going bad and the Celts and Danny are not doing a good job. This story is whatever the Celts decide it is.

The worst thing about this story is that we know about it.

The Celtics should fine themselves for public stupidity

People are unbelievable.

He was at almost EVERY ****ING GAME when he was injured and rehabing.  EVERY ****ING GAME when he didn't have to.

The man decide to go celebrate his birthday for a day after a very difficult year and his leadership and everything about him is getting questioned.

I really feel like cursing out some people right now but in order to avoid being banned, I'm just going to leave and come back later.

Un-****ing-believable.  WOW
