I have yet to hear a talk radio show in Boston have any consistent basketball talk that is anything other than infuriating.

when grande and max have their weekly show on sports hub, its good.

prior to that, the last time would be when big O was on the big show and would have max in studio

The old 1510: The Zone was good back in the day.  Early 2000s-ish.  They had some good Celtics talk on some of their shows.  Diehards,  maybe?

Here's the real problem.

These radio stations in Boston hire broadcasters based on their baseball and football knowledge. The Patriots and Redsox is all that matters to these stations.

I can't name 1 knowledgeable basketball broadcaster on either the Hub or WEEI

Right, this is exactly it.  And its not just about their knowledge, it is about the topics they research too.  Like it or not, the C's are still at best a distant third in this city, and you could argue they are 4th.  The Pats and Sox dominate the ratings, and are the most popular topic of conversation, because they have the most fans interested in talking about them and hearing about them.  So, accordingly, the radio personalities focus much more of their time on following those sports.

Well the Sox are always the top sports team in NE.

Pats are #2 until Brady retires (or soon thereafter when the team goes into decline then I really think they're back at the end of the pack).  I know I'll get an argument about that but having grown up in this area and lived here almost 50 years (much closer to that than I want to admit), the Pats were always the least-followed local team until Bledsoe and then Brady.  Most kids I grew up with followed some other football team besides the Pats.  very different for the other teams where almost everyone was a fan of the Sox, Bruins and Celtics.  (not me of course, just a C's fan, my fandom lies elsewhere than local teams for other sports)

Bruins and C's will teeter back and forth between whichever team is better that season.

Watching Felger and Mazz make me want to stick a sharp knife in my ears.

These guys are idiots, buffoons, clowns, jokes, hacks, ect.

I'm amazed they get paid to spew the crap they do.

they'e better than the buffoons over at eei, but that's not saying much.  i actually find my self enjoying ordway on sirius mad dog radio.  he got into the rut of the shock radio and never came out at eei.  he's actually talking sports again.

I happen to think felger is spot on about his analysis of the NBA.

I don't fully agree with his analysis about the C's though. specifically when it comes to rondo. I was ok moving rondo if the deal was right, but to let him go just to be really bad is wrong. rondo is probably going to play limited mins for the rest of the yr. and we don't have the best schedule coming up. we're still a bad team.

plus, this deadline wasn't our only chance to trade rondo. if it was and depending on what our plans are then I could see being irate about him not being dealt.

the media as a whole that surrounds the new England teams is imo another big reason why free agents don't like to come here.

Its not just the celtics stuff its everything.

Mazz jumping on Red sox train in november

Complaining about Bb and the pats none stop about their drafting. Very similar to the Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing about danny.

Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing about Claude Julien still.

I find it entertaining although i do diaagree with them on a lot. The issue is that they look at evwrything at its surface and end there never digging deeper.

Theyll Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. about BB drafting but wont compare to the rest of the league and gms in similarpositions. Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. about not trading Rondo but then wont dig deeper into what was actually available. Not to mentiom anything more complicated as far as the CBA

Its like anyone just reading the internet and just coming up with conclusions, most of the time vague without challenging themselves.

Obviously it would get boring if they just said "well doesmt look like there are any deals for rondo out there. I dont wamt topay that guy that much. Hmmm i guess the CBA wouldnt allow us these trades we are proposing"

People get shot down all the time here with stuff likee. Those guys probably dont know a ton more than a lot of us but they know how to entertain get ratings.

Whenever they have  danny and thise guys on they dont really have much to say even though they try and poke the bear. Danny will just reverse the question and ask "oh would you trade rondoo for less value than you thouvht you should get back?" Then if Felger doesnt think Rondo is as valuable as a paackage hed want than youd just have to go off of who you tjink is more knowledable Danny or Felger.

I equate the talk show scene to reality tv. Its a vice and can be addicting but you always feel kinda gross listening and a lot of times have trouble turning the train wreck

The fact that baseball has such a hook in Boston despite the fact that it's increasingly being enjoyed by just old people http://deadspin.com/bad-news-for-baseball-world-series-viewers-are-getting-1450913504 is pretty interesting.

This, and the fact that the B's are a decent team now means the C's are a solid 4th. When I talk to local friend or even strangers, nobody cares about the Celtics, they follow the Bruins though.

It's really terrible, as much as I wish Felger would talk NBA more and talk about it more seriously, it's not like WEEI is rolling in expert analysis on the subject.

I remember thinking yesterday when listening to WEEI's coverage that all they use is buzzwords because they have no idea what they are talking about.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

A few posters beat me to it, but I'll say it anyway.

Felger and Mazz are a reflection of the peope of Boston. They play to the masses. For some reason, even when the Cetltics do well, they still take  a back seat to the other teams here. I've lived here since 1980 and was a Celtics fan before I moved here. The Celtics are a national treasure. unfortunately, they are under apprecated in Boston, and probably always will be.

Maybe it's just a blue collar town after all.

You assume someone will give you a top 5 for Rondo.
