Why are people ganging up on each other in these threads? Obviously people have different opinions but petty attacks are just childish...

I voted yes. I don't think Rondo can be your best player if you want to be a contender.

If we got Parsons, Jones and 2 picks (throw in Asik or Lin to make the salaries work), I'd be happy. I don't know why the rockets are hesitant to include CP in the deal. Rondo as their #3 pretty much solidifies their status as a true contender.

I also kinda liked that Kings deal (Mclemore, Thomas and 2 picks) to be honest.

Yes, but Rondo has already been the best player on a contender . . . twice.  This actually happened.

  Agreed.

Making him 0-2 as the best player on the team when it comes to winning a ring?

What's CP3's record on winning a ring as the best player on a contender?

I don't think CP3's ever been on a real contender.

But that's apples to chainsaws, isn't it?

I'd call his Clippers teams contenders. They're as much contenders as the Celts teams Rondo was the best player on, and he's come up short. In fact he's never been to a conference finals.

I'd definitely say Rondo's the better post season player, at least to this point in their careers, and that's in comparison to the best pg in the game. Rondo's valuable.

I don't think anyone's debating that?

And I'm totally on board as saying that neither Rondo nor Chris Paul has won an NBA title as the lone superstar. That's not really how you win titles, as we've discussed ad nauseum.

I would probably hedge on the idea that a team with Chris Paul as it's best player would be a better team than a team with Rondo as it's best player, but that's kind of a silly idea.

Maybe the third time will be a charm.

Fingers crossed.

Paul Pierce never won a ring as the best player on a real contender, either. It's not a death sentence.

I have been a major critic of Rondo in the past, but this new offensive version of Rondo that we're seeing, the one who confidently knocks down jumpers and 3 pointers, and who no longer holds the ball fishing for assists, i would like to keep him. During tonights game against Phoenix, the Suns went on something like a 20-5 run while Rondo was on the bench. As soon as he came back in, the C's got the game down to a single possession. If this is the offensive version of Rondo that the C's are going to get, they need to keep him.

I'm not sure I understand what you're actually debating, then?

A brief glance at draft history shows that roughly 1 in 3 number one overall picks in the past twenty years have been as good as, or better than, Rondo.

Don't worry, though, I'm assured there are six or seven players in this draft who are destined to have better pro careers than Rondo.

I have never been on board with the idea that Rondo was the best player on the Celtics before this year.  I think on Houston it would be much like the previous Celtics team.  Dwight and Harden would be the 1a and 1b (like Garnett and Pierce were) and Rondo would be a very solid complement.

And the idea that CP3 is not as good as Rondo because teams with him as the best player have never won a title?  Chris Paul never had a team like Rondo had with Pierce and Garnett.  Also, Chris Paul is not quite in the Kobe, LeBron, Durant best player club but I think he is in that next tier that include best player on champions like Garnett, Duncan.  He would need some pretty good players around him, like Garnett or Duncan had, but I think Chris Paul is right there.

I put Rondo more at the level of Bosh or Ginobili or Parker, really key pieces on a title team but clearly not the best player.  I actually think Parker is better than Rondo but Rondo is better than Ginobili (the Ginobili of a few years ago) but these guys are all in the same group.

What does that mean exactly? LeBron was 0-2 before he made his super team or was it 0-3... pfft I can't remember.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
