It's really hard to say. People forget that almost no big men are good at all out of college. It's much easier for guards and wings to adjust quickly. Roy Hibbert, for example, averaged 7 ppg and 3.5 rbs his first year and Dirk averaged 8.2 ppg and 3.4 rpg as a rook. It's all about his development from year to year.

In general, it makes very little sense to trade a guy less than a year after you draft him.

Typically you don't draft for current value, you draft for future value.  So you're pretty much always going to be selling low, unless it's really obvious less than a year in that it was a bad pick and the guy you got wasn't worth the 1st you spent on him.

I'm envisioning a scenario where Ainge surprises everyone and trades a package for a star.  I'm pretty sure the response here is unanimous that if they ask for Sullinger, you try to sell the other team on accepting Olynyk instead.  If they are asking for multiple draft picks, do you offer Olynyk in lieu of one of those firsts?

If Ainge offered Bogans, Bass, and the Clippers pick for Asik and Morey said no, is offering Olynyk instead of the pick an upgrade or a downgrade on the offer?

I think this is a good way to think about it. I'd say he is an upgrade in such a proposal.

I think he's an upgrade relative to a second rounder, the Clips pick or the phantom Philly pick.

Any of the other picks trumps him IMO.
