I'm not sure how many of you caught this on last night's ASG broadcast, but an interaction between Russ and Lebron James was recounted. Apparently, Russ thanked Lebron for leaving him off of his Mount Rushmore. He told him that basketball is a team game, that he won consecutive titles in HS, then in college, one his rookie year, one in his last year, and nine in-between - and titles are written in stone.

Great stuff...

Quote
"Thank you for leaving me off your Mount Rushmore. Im glad you did. Basketball is a team game. Its not for individual honors. I won back-to-back state championships in highschool. Back-to-back NCAA championships in college. I won an NBA championship my first year in the league. An NBA championship my last year. 9 in between. And that, Mr. James, is etched in stone."

I'm pretty sure Bill Russell is banned for life from ESPN after that comment. I can't wait for the the sequel to "The Decision" that airs tonight, "The Interview". I guess TNT gets the chance to show LeBron love now. Needs to talk a lot more this year since Durant is crushing it.

way to go Mr Russell !
I'm sure its not just me that lebron comes off like a spoiled jerk.  Listen to his interviews then someone like kevin durant ,big big difference.  Glad Russ put him in his place (not that "the king" would notice)

TP and thanks for posting!

No matter the record, James is pure loser.

LeBron James is an ignorant. A freak of Nature... and an ignorant.

Sounds like Bill was a little miffed to not be included.  But that's a pretty amazing speech to give.  Glad to see Bill's still got that competitive fire.  You just know he was thinking "if we were the same age I'd've buried you too".

It's always bothered me that LeBron switched from No. 23 as a way to honor Jordan—but he switched to No. 6, which belongs to the greatest winner in the history of modern North American sports and a civil rights pioneer. And nobody ever talked about that! I wonder if that bothers Russ, too.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

while we're on the subject of LeBron. there was an interview before or during the all star game with LeBron & i'm not gonna say this guy doesn't want to participate in the all star game but he sure sounded like it. to paraphrase - "we're obligated to be here but it's fun and it's for the fans".

this is my problem or 1 of the problems with this guy. he wants all the accolades but doesn't want to do anything for it.

smug piece o' crap imo.

Not to mention Dr. J.

While I found the game to be a little boring, this made my night.

And Lebron did come across as annoyed to be there. The more he said how fun it was, the more he used words like "obligation."
