A)The idea that the team was bleeding money is bull. NBA team valuations don't keep trending upward because these teams lose money.

B)The league 86'd the trade because they--the office and the ownership--did not want Chris Paul on the Lakers. While Scola/Odom/Gasol adds to your payroll, it also increases the likelihood of making the playoffs, which is where teams make a ton of money. The financial solvency of trading for Eric Gordon, who everyone knew was headed for a massive contract, over those guys, does not come close to covering the gate fees from even a single playoff series. It's the same reason that Oklahoma City crying poor when they got rid of James Harden rings hollow.

C) You're the one that's brought Stern being corrupt into this. I've said nothing of the sort, and neither did anyone doing any reporting. "Basketball reasons" was a load of ****, and we all knew it.

The New Orleans Hornets may technically be property of the NBA now, but the League’s ultimate goal is to find a suitable buyer for the franchise, and soon. It will not be an easy task.

Saddled with a struggling local economy, leading to poor attendance, the Hornets are not in a good place financially. In fact, that may be putting it very lightly, according to documents obtained and published by Deadspin.

Below is a quick summary of the grim findings; make sure to read the entire thing for a clearer picture of the team’s cash woes:

    Two things jump out, at least to this layman’s eyes: the team’s operating income, which in 2008 was a $6.4 million loss and in 2009 was a $5.9 million gain (slide 10), though that latter figures includes $3.4 million in revenue assistance from the NBA (slide 27); and the team’s net cash in operating activities, which represents the “measurement of money [owner George Shinn] is being asked to take out of his pocket to keep operations going,” according to sports economist Andrew Zimbalist. In 2008, that amount was $7.4 million; in 2009, $1.4 million (slide 12). Zimbalist points out that “things got much more problematic for the franchise” the following year.

    Also of note: As of June 30, 2009, the partners’ deficit totaled $83 million (slide 13). The team’s share of national broadcast rights payments was $26 million in 2008 and $28 million in 2009 (slide 27). And in 2008, the Hornets were told they had received revenue-sharing money in error for the 2005-06 season — $2.8 million, by the looks of it (slide 27). The money was paid back in 2009.

The League says there’s no rush to sell the team, but looking at the finances, it’s not exactly an asset that moneyed buyers will be rushing out to bid on.

They couldn't sell tickets with superstar Chris Paul leading them to the playoffs... you're telling me they would have been fine being on the hook for 90 million dollars for the likes of Luis Scola, Lamar Odom and Kevin Martin?

Come on.

Anyways... Davis is a superstar.  Here's hoping Boston lands one someday.

They 86'ed the trade because it was a downright terrible trade. That is all.

It had nothing to do with the league not wanting CP3 going to the lakers.

That trade would have done nothing but make finding a buyer for N.O. far more difficult.

He's a once in a generation mixture of talent, skill, size and attitude mixed in with freakish co ordination for someone that tall and long.

We were lucky to have KG and Duncan at the same time in the NBA and they are both arguably top 5 Power forwards all time.

If Davis continues his progression at this rate he'll be a hall of famer.

What I find funny is that as soon as chris paul leaves they get a true franchise big man.

Joel Embid can only hope to be as good as Davis is now as his peak.

Incredible player who's snuck under the radar a little due to his crummy team's lack of media coverage.
