And then, if he decides to leave, not only will the Knicks be helpless to do anything about it, they'll also be devoid of the ability to ensure they'll receive equitable compensation for their most marketable commodity since Patrick Ewing and the most prolific scorer in the game next to Kevin Durant.

This has been discussed so many times on this blog, a new thread wasn't really necessary.  In fact I think that exact trade has made a number of rounds.

1. I don't like the deal on its face. Giving up a potential high lottery pick and another first round pick as well as other assets.

2. I definitely don't give up these type of assets on Melo's word that he will resign. There is nothing binding there and if Melo doesn't like Boston or his wife LaLa hears too many honey nut cheerio jokes in the stands, he bolts and we gave up a large slice of our future for the last legs of Chandler.

We're back to square one and it would be like groundhog day. We get to try to sell off Chandler and do this season all over again.

if the Knicks had as bad of a management as the Cavs, I would offer Green/Bass/anyone not named Rondo/Bradley/Sully for Melo and the clippers 2015 pick, throw in another 2 first rounders, just not the 2014 one

This, they're not getting anything worthwhile in return.  A bunch of role players who are better fits on a good team than a bad team and late draft picks in exchange for their offensive and defensive anchors isn't even remotely fair.
