I hear everybody saying how we don't need this guy or that guy because we're a young rebuilding team with a 3-5 year window before contending again. I don't understand this logic for the life of me.

We have a 28 year old All-Star caliber point guard who is one of the NBA's very best passer/distributors. This guy is an elite NBA quarterback who Danny has said he would like to build around. Let's assume for the sake of this post that he means that.

Why do we want to build a team of 22 year olds? I understand the logic of wanting a top 3 stud pick this year, but in general?

Am i the only one who would rather get another 3-5 year window and contend again? I see guys like Sully, Bradley, and our picks as mere fodder to acquire someone like Love, Bosh, Melo, etc. to pair with Rondo. After that i would prefer to go after a 6th man like Jamal  Crawford, a 2 guard like Affalo, and a big man like Asik.

We need a star wing and a great stretch 4 big imo and i feel like a high pick this year along with everything else this year puts us in place to grab atleast one of these key pieces this summer. The rest of what i mentioned should be much easier, especially with guys like Avery and Sully as bait.

After that fill the roster out with veterans.

Anyone else just wanting to flip the assets and move back into contention with Rondo? I'm sure most of you did when we had prime PP.

It's simple.

You need good draft picks to do the things you're talking about.

Absolutely, that's why i would love a top 5 pick this year. I did say that in my post. But Sully is already a solid equivalent of Big Al.

Or plenty of future draft picks to trade.

It isn't smart to package draft picks. The point is to gain assets. Draft picks have a set value. Relatively speaking, the #17 overall pick is going to be worth the same every year. The key is too draft well, and acquire talent that is worth more than the draft pick they were slotted in.

The trade route is going to take time, unless we get a top 5 pick and actually want to move it.

The point is to acquire assets and then (more likely than not) bundle multiple assets to trade for 1 better asset. The trade route doesn't take any particular amount of time but is dependent on what assets are available to trade for.

The reality is none of those guys you mentioned would come here and if they did they wouldn't make us contenders. plus melo has been rumored to be going to chicago (if anywhere), kevin love was a die hard laker fan growing up (he's the nephew of a beach boy), Aldrige is staying because Portland is finally good. Bosh has a much more attractive destination and could play at home in Houston.

So in reality none of these guys are going to come here. Which means BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT.

No, I am sure there are plenty of other delusional fans who have convinced themselves that Tier 1 free agents will choose to come to Boston as a free agent. It has never happened, but SURE… I bet you are right…

Either you draft stars, you trade for them, or you take tier 3 leftovers...

draft route or trade route, you still need as high a pick as possible to maximize your future.

#1 Pierce was drafted here and we were able to "convert" him. #2 Kevin Love is a one way player who has slow foot speed on D and will not turn a team into a contender.

Sounds like you're completely skipping over Tier 2 there, buddy.

Remember when Dirk Nowitzki couldn't defend a chair, and everyone knew it? But then he met Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion? Without Marion and Chandler's defense, Dirk couldn't win a championship. Without Dirk, the Mavericks team was a lotto team. Kevin Love could work out a lot like that.
