Just curious as to how soon you think we'll be back to being a competitive team like we were from 2008-2012.

Could it be as soon as next year OR are we in for a long wait?

It's funny because if you ask me, I think the Patriots and maybe even the Red Sox are on a downward spiral. I think the Pats days of victory are over til after a replacement for Brady is groomed.

Also, I kinda think the Sox caught lightining in a bottle last season and will now come back down to earth (and thus play like they appear on paper, a sub 500 team.) Also doesn't help that the Sox lost Ellsbury and Salty and then literally did nothing all offseason.

So hopefully, the Celts can takeover the headlines and not keep us waiting too long.

Good point. If they draft what would appear to be a franchise player(Randle, Embiid, Wiggins, Parker), my guess is we return to contention sooner rather than later. OR if they trade the pick in a package for an all-star, that would also be a good sign as well.

However, if Ainge drafts an underwhelming player and keeps him, then we could be waiting a while.

Doubt it will be that long.  The team was a total train wreck when Danny came aboard and he called it 5 years.  We're much, much better of now.

I'm calling a deep playoff run in 2016. 2 years.

I actually don't expect a top 3 pick. there's too many variables working against that imo.

I would not be surprised if this yrs. draft plays out like the '07 draft - get shafted by the nba again and we just go all in again.

Well, 2007 worked out pretty well for us.

Question is, will there be another blockbuster deal that falls in our lap like the KG deal did?

DAnny has assets for years and years to come... Hes going to trade what he can to build as soon as possible... He did it in 07 when all he had was Pierce and a bunch of young players (Jefferson and Green)... Now its similiar with Rondo with a group of Sullinger, Olynck, Bradley, and Green plus all the picks... The assets are much higher this season...

That said he could make moves to compete next year... and it makes sense in the East... Miami IMO is slowly fading sort of like the big 3 at the end og their era.. Also we still dont know what Lebron will do which leaves to Indiana... they are a great team however they only have one star player and no Hibbert is not a star.. The East can be taken with the right moves...

True, expect I think Miami is going to be a force for the next 3-5 years. BUT after Miami and Indiana, the East is wide open this year and I think it will be wide open for the next several years to come.

With the uncertainty of Rose's health, I don't think Chicago can be regarded as one of the East's top teams, any longer.

That's why I was against tanking this year. Take a look at the EC after Miami and Indiana and name one team that scares you (crickets)

I think we're back in the playoffs in 2016.  2017 at the latest.

Contending, depends how Danny makes out in the draft this year and next.  Also depends on whether Danny can unload the vets we have for better assets (better relevant to us than who we trade).

I think the C's are winning the Atlantic in 2 years.

I think we're three to five seasons away.

3-5 sounds about right to me too.

I think there are going to be a lot of disappointed people as I see a lot of people comparing this season to 2007. That was at the end of the last rebuild. This year is the start.

On the positive side, Ainge has more assets at the start then he did in 2003 but on the negative side, players like KG don't become available all of the time. It's one thing to collect the assets that make such a deal possible, but you also need to have a seller.

So we have a great start on collecting the assets but it might take a few years for that last major piece to get within our grasp.

yes, 3-5 years sounds right to me as well.

i think ainge will use the draft to build, but make at least one big trade to bring in a star - ala KG and ray trades.

the question is when he would make this trade? i dont see it happening until wallace is waving goodbye to the celtics, so such a trade may be 2 years away.

if i were not both busy and lazy i would review the rosters of other teams, see who will probably suck in 2-3 years, AND has a super star they might package for a herd of young players. that is about as close to a crystal ball as i can summon up at the moment.
