I love the Celtics!!!! I love winning!!!!!   I find myself wanting to ensure we have a better chance of a top 3 pick than winning games this year.  I do the mock draft a lot  just to see who it says we could get. A week or so ago we were in the top 3 now after tonight we are 7th. To me these wins mean nothing this year. I honestly wander if these more or less meaningless wins right now are worth  drafting 7th instead of 3rd. My answer in a definite NO!!!,

Which is why 5 games from now Ainge will have some really tough choices to make.

Agree with the tough choices part, but disagre with the motivation. Danny Ainge doesn't need to trade because he already paid money and a 2nd rounder to get under the luxury threshold.

Will he trade to bottom out and get a better pick? No way.
Might his trades make the team worse? probably, but only if he can get his main goal: financial flexibility, assets for a 2015 big trade and pieces to build the team.

Trading Wallace+Humphries+Bogans for Amare and Shumpert would make the team worse in the short run, but it would help in the flexibility and 2015-expiring contracts department, and the latter would be the goal.

Seriously, you think you're the only person here in favor of tanking?  Where have you been?

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I consider myself a big picture type. Imo, this was a throw away season from the start. This season should be about developing young players, clearing the cap, and acquiring assets. I don't condone tanking on a coaching/player level but from a management level I think it's the only thing that makes sense.

The way I see it, making the play-offs by default in the weak east is the best laid road to mediocrity. This is especially true if we add mediocre role players and contracts to help us get there. The idea would be to give players experience, but I bet not even half of this roster is part of our long term goals. Outside of Rondo, Sullinger and maybe Bradley I doubt anyone has a future with this team.

On the otherhand, the Lottery is chance at gaining a major asset. Best case scenario we get a top 3 we have a chance at what could be a tier 1 superstar, top ten it's a major trade chip at worst. With Rondo a proven champion, solid young players (Bradley, Sullinger), the Brooklyn picks, a top 5-10 in this draft and cap space/expiring contracts we would have the assets to build a contender basically over night in a trade. Basically 07 all over again, except this time we have way more assets.

We are all in favor  of us getting better. Playing the young guys will be coming after the deadline. Remember Danny has to showcase the guys that are going to be free agents and the pieces he wants to trade. I have no problem with this. If Danny can get some expiring contracts and a couple of picks great he adds more to his ammo. Teams around this time are looking for vetaran help. I don't care what we are able to get but its all about the future!!!

Bench Rondo bring Marbury out of retirement and let him run the show.

I wish more people felt this way. The OP gets it. It's not about "trolling" it's about the big picture. Would you rather watch the Celtics turn into the Knicks or would you rather them turn into the Thunder? One is a contender every year and the other battles for 4-8 seeds yearly.

I prefer the Indiana or Houston models to assembling a roster rather than OKC.

Not a fan of watching our team turn into the Seattle Celtics?

I'd be on board with this but we want the young guys to actually get the ball  ;D

The Rockets are a treadmill team in the West.  OKC has achieved more than Indiana.

if you have the chance of acquiring a top 5 pick in a top heavy draft i think you gotta take it. if we make some moves and get in the bottom 3 i like our chances. if we get screwed like we did last time we will still be able to flip the pick for established talent. the timing for our tank job is perfect. people are saying there are future studs in this draft. reminds me of oden/durant. danny wants to tank but he wont ever admit it. look at his behavior, how many draft picks do we have?

The Rockets have done a good job of rebuilding after Yao/McGrady and would probably looked like a contender sooner if the Chris Paul trade hadn't been vetoed.  The Pacers have done a good job of rebuilding after the Malice at the Palace.  I think Ainge can have the Celtics in contention for a title sooner than it took those teams.

OKC has won has many titles as Indiana in the past few years.  The Pacers at least took the Heat to seven games, whereas the Thunder rolled over in five games.
