Someone should probably get Danny Ainge a cold towel. One of the most consistent objects of his affection is back on the court. Omer Asik, the defensive-minded center who has had the Celtics’ president of basketball operations hot under the collar for some time, participated in shootaround for the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, the Houston Chronicle reports. Rockets coach Kevin McHale told reporters Asik could be cleared to play within 7-10 days.
Quote
Asik has been connected with the Celtics multiple times, including a report in December that said a deal for Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round draft pick was imminent. That deal did not happen, and Lee was later sent to the Memphis Grizzlies. Jeff Green and Rajon Rondo have also been involved in Asik-related rumors, which come in varying degrees of plausibility.
Quote
Asik has not been cleared for contact practice. His participation Wednesday reportedly was limited to “five-on-zero” drills and walkthroughs. Yet that still could be enough to pique Ainge’s interest again.

I would do bradley and bass for asik or Green and Fav, they need someone to guard westbrook and Lebron/durant if they plan on contending .

I'm pretty sure if Danny was really hot to get Asik he'd be here by now. Not saying Danny won't get him, but it's not like he's calling Houston on the phone every other day either.

Agree with Tim.  Asik doesn't fit on a team trying to bottom out and rebuild over the next 3-5 years.  The only reason Ainge was targeting Asik was because he seemed like an asset we could steal for pennies.

Yeah, if Ainge really really wanted Asik, he would of given up the ATL/BRK first and been done with it.

Think Ainge would absolutely still acquire Asik in the coming weeks and i still hope he does if say the price was Bass/Favarani or a Jeff Green.

Asik is good, but he's not somebody who's going to swing your win/loss column hugely. Even more so if we trade Green and have to trot Wallace out there as our starting SF.

I don't know if ainge has any more interest in asik than he does anyone else.

but, I do know we made an offer that Houston didn't agree with. because danny probably low-balled 'em. which is what you do to a team that was clearly desperate.

when that trade deadline comes around we'll see just how comfortable Houston is with letting asik walk and get nothing in return for 'em.

And, of course, he's a legit lane-filling, rim-defending Center that we desperately need to build the team.

As of now there is no way DA trades for Asik if he has to give away trade chips or young players... however if he could shed 2 contracts (Green, Wallce, Bass) then I'll say its possible but still unlikely...

there's no way we offer more than what we already offered. every team that may have been involved with the rockets self appointed trade deadline called their bluff. if anything they will get a lot less in return now.

all the Asik talk is overblown. one of the fundamental pieces (dumping Lee) has already be done.

I thought that at the time.  Waiting for a better deal can often result in teams moving on and no longer being willing or even able to offer better deals.

That almost makes it easier to trade for him. We're already rid of Lee's salary so we don't need to try and pawn off his contract on the Rockets.

Yeah, Lee was the contract we were trying to rid ourselves of. I am glad to see he is playing so well and we got a player who is expiring, but also quite decent and has 'potential'.

Asik for Green has been thrown around here a lot. I, personally, don't like it as I think Houston should be throwing in a pick (especially with the owners having to spend all that extra $). Since this isn't going to happen, they might be better off taking Hump for Asik, straight up, and cutting a lot of $ off their payroll while acquiring a player they can actually use.

my point was: i read the reported package to have the advantage of getting rid of Lee. now that they've done that, do the really care that much about acquiring Asik, and paying him $15mil next year (even if his cap hit is only 8something), while giving up a pick in the process?

to me, reading the smoke signals, Ainge saw it in December as a 'value' trade. made an offer that killed a few birds with one stone, and stuck to it. dumping long term salary would now be turning to adding it, short of trading Green.

i believe if Ainge could trade Green for him straight up -- he would -- but he can't. and Bass isn't getting it done.

We could definitely use a starting center who's a strong rebounder and rim protector. I don't think the swap was entirely related to salaries. If Danny wanted to unload Lee's salary and add Asik he's halfway there.

I'd keep Hump rather than trade him with his expiring for Asik on his current, short, expensive deal.

It's Bass & Bogans plus the conditional 1st that will likely be two 2nds, at this point, or the Clippers' pick.
