Not sexy... but a trade I think has a good chance of happening, if Charlotte can't settle on a better deal for Gordon's expiring:

CHA gets: Humphries
BOS gets: Gordon, Portland 1st

Charlotte has tried to do this deal before, when Hump was in NJ. They could certainly still use frontcourt depth.

And no, I don't believe the Horcats will give us the Pistons pick in this deal. This is the best the Cs are going to see for Hump, IMO. And no, they won't take Wallace too.

Anyone agree?

Strongly disagree. No way Charlotte does this.

I'd be shocked if we got a first round pick for Humphries without taking on addtional salary.

Are we basically getting a first rounder for free?

If that's the best that the Cs think they can get, then do it. The sooner the better, so that picks can be packaged and sent out again if necessary.
Celtics fan for life.

How come? Charlotte clearly in buying mode. They have a lot of young guys on rookie contracts and are not at all depleted of picks.

If half a season of Kris Humphries is worth a 1st rounder...

There is no way Charlotte gives up a 1st round pick and expiring contract for the expiring contract of Humphries.  Now if Boston added in some more value, then sure that might be possible. Humphries, Green, Bradley for Gordon, Biyombo, Taylor, Session, Portland 1st.  That trade seems more reasonable.  Or maybe you try to get MKG and let them keep the first and Taylor (though I don't think they do that).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Kris Humphries is not worth an expiring an a pick. THe expiring contract could be a $10 million bag of pizza rolls (but I heard Eddy Curry retired, ZING!) or Ben Gordon, either way Kris Humphries' value is not large enough to take back a pick AND not incur salary down the line.

Giving up a first round pick for a half season rental?

Is that really so strange?

Washington gave up ~ the 15th pick in the draft for a full season of Gortat... would it be that odd for Michael Jordan (hardly the maestro of the deal) to give up ~ the 25th pick for a playoff push with a player he's coveted in the past? Gortat's the better player, but gets more time... PER they're competitive.

I don't know. I could see it. That first round pick is most likely going to be in that 26-30 range which historically doesn't perform much better than a second round pick and, unlike a second round pick, comes with a guaranteed contract.

Charlotte has stated that making the playoffs is of high priority and Humphries is at worst a quality backup at a position of need and at best an upgrade over Josh McRoberts.

Like the OP said, Jordan has tried to get Hump before and this doesn't necessarily have to be a half-season rental. They may feel that getting him into the door gives them the upper hand when he goes to free agency.

I think there will need to be something added on both sides or be done after the C's make another move as this would put the Celtics over the luxury tax threshold and they have been adamant about not going over it this year.

Gortat is far more highly regarded than Humprhies. Additionally the Wizards just lost Okafor due to Injury and made a panic trade to make a playoff push. They also got a full season out of Gortat.

The Bobcats aren't in such circumstances. Heck they could get Pau Gasol instead of Humprhies if they wanted to send out a pick.

Worse things have happened: Joe Johnson for Delk and Rogers. But then again we had Delk for a few seasons. I think we had Rogers for two. Anyways looking back it was a horrible trade.

Yeah but Gortat is a starting center that can make a huge impact. This is Kris Humphries we're talking about. There's in no way in h-e double hockey sticks that a team would send us a better expiring and a mid round first round pick. Not a chance.
