Ah, but Grasshopper: Was it the worst month in Celtics history--or one of their most transformative, best months?

Too soon. Too soon to tell.

Normally when the Celtics rebuild ,  it doesn't take such a terrible record to get a good draft pick.  This year the number of awful team is just plain stupid , that so many teams could be bad all at once.

Too many teams in the league ,  talent pool is thin for NBA level play.    Need to go back to amount of teams in 1970.   And let those clubs igot it out for the best players .

it was the best month. we went from 8th seed "swept in round 1" to contenders for winning the draft lotto.

Yep, we are winners on the bright side of things.

But still, I was wishing we could atleast beat the Lakers.

This breaks our record of 2-14 in January 2007. Things went pretty well from there on out!

Not sure if I would go back to 1970, but there are far too many teams for the real talent that is available. But, barring a catastrophe, the almighty dollar will never allow contraction.

Neither would the players union.

I'd say the month Len Bias died was the worst month in Celtics history.

These losses are a means to a worthy end.

As for contraction, I agree that will never happen.  But perhaps some kind of system (similar to what Bill Simmons has suggested) where the teams at the bottom compete against one another toward the end of the season, for something worth winning, a system that somewhat mimics a 2nd division / relegation system, would be good to have.

The biggest problem with the NBA at the moment is that each season there are 12-14 teams (at least) that have nothing to play for except lottery balls, and that actually makes losing a better thing than winning.  The league may never really be able to create much parity, but it could at least make things more interesting for fans of teams not currently near the top.
