He's a force in the middle and about as tough as you'll find in the NBA.

Being a thug doesn't mean you're tough.

Maybe cool it on the use of 'thug' to describe a black man..

Maybe cool it with reading racism into arguments where there isn't any. It says a lot about your own prejudices.

No, it says a lot about your ignorance to the power of language in shaping a human being's thoughts. Like how you could have said punk, or jerk, or child, but chose thug. This exact issue has actually come up recently...

But you are probably right, I was definitely intimating you are a racist and not trying to subtly point out that the word has a lot of negative connotations tied to it. Since I moved on and continued talking about the Celtics.

I know you are a very respected poster on this forum, and that respect comes from my perspective as well. But don't try to imply that I have some knee-jerk reaction to something that is actually an issue within society. And don't tell me how I view other human beings cause I never said anything of the sort concerning you.

I am sorry that I posted this to the thread and not directly to Roy H. but considering I was called out publicly I felt the need to defend myself publicly.

What is your definition of thug as it pertains to Bynum?

No, I totally understand that many liberals (and worse, race-baiters) are trying to redefine a race-neutral term. I just don't buy into it.

Bill Laimbeer was a thug. So is Andrew Bynum.

What is your definition of thug as it pertains to Bynum?

Multiple flagrant fouls with the seeming intent to injure.

His off court behavior seems more "punk" than "thug".

I fully agree with Roy here. Laimbeer was a thug, and so is Bynum. For the longest time , Laimbeer was the NBA definition of a thug.

You do know what the term thug implies, though. Don't you? It implies gang member. There's a reason that separate words are created and cultivated. They have differing, though related meanings and undertones. I'm also not liberal, nor a race-baiter.

Whatever though, not trying to hijack a thread.

That might help explain his seemingly shallow passion for the sport. I feel like he's a young guy who has already made a lot of his money and doesn't really feel the need for basketball to define or engross him.

He was the youngest player I can remember to get a 10 million dollar contract

Thug's a pretty common term to use for play like Bynum's. It's used all the time in soccer. I'd use the same term about Wade btw. As for Bynum, check out some of his "greatest hits", where he deliberately takes out players who are in the air and in defenseless positions. Child, jerk or punk don't really fit as descriptions of that kind of behavior.

Well we might as well call Sully a thug then with his old school fouls  ;D. I heard KG being called a fake thug a lot by others...lol.

I just think he's still childish and from my understanding some say he'd rather be a computer engineer than a basketball player..this isn't his real passion.

exactly. Plenty of NHL players have been described as thugs, yet none would be described as gangstas

Because, with some exceptions, they're white.

I feel like this could be debated ad nauseam and we'd both see things the way we see them. Sorry for the distraction, fellas.
