Is it more about him coming back from injury that teams are hesistant to trade for him or something else

In some ways yes. I want to win a championship and Rondo has won it before.

Unless the NBA has suddenly turned into protecting their assets as their #1 priority

Remember back in the days. Trades for key assets, high picks did happen for just a key rental vets (not even a big star). For example we gave up Joe Johnson for Rodney Rogers pretty much, so that we can try to go far.

It didn't workout but i can see why the trade was attempted.

Just because those are the only the only teams mentioned doesn't mean they're the only ones inquiring.  Not a single source called Deron Williams getting traded to the Nets when it happened.

  Aside from that, think of the other players in the league who are in their 20s, have been to 3-4 all-star games and haven't made any noise about leaving their teams or requested a trade. How often do you hear those players come up in trade rumors? How strange/interesting do you find the lack of league-wide interest in those players?

i can't imagine rondo gets dealt unless its for a pretty huge return. we aren't getting that from the knicks, and the pistons don't seem willing to part with drummond, so that seems like a dead alley, too. all these rumors seem to be lazy sports journalists just pontificating
