The O'Connor front page article got me thinking: with the Suns making a playoff push and the Celtics looking to rebuild, the McDonough/Ainge connection, and both teams having a lot of picks, I feel like there is a deal to be made between the two teams.

What to people think of a deal that sends Green and Bass to Phoenix for Okafor and one of either the Washington or Minnesota picks? That would give the Celtics potentially 3 picks in the top 18 this year, depending on seeding. (I would even consider trading the Clippers 2015 pick to get this done.)

Both Green and Bass would be immediate upgrades to the Suns' roster at the two positions where they are weakest.  For the C's, big cap relief and another trade chip for Ainge. Wallace would be the only bad big contract left and Danny would have tons of picks available to package with him if another team were willing to absorb the rest of his deal.

Green I could see them using, but Bass isn't an upgrade. At least not one worth paying for on their end when they get such good production out of the Morrisi and Channing Frye.

You're right about Frye. Guess I was thinking he'd be more of an upgrade to Morris. Maybe not enough, though.

Wow, I haven't been keeping up with the Suns. I thought Marcus was the good Morris. Didn't realize his brother was playing so well.

Oops. Yeah, they probably have no interest in Bass. Let's work something out for Green, though! :o)

Maybe instead of Bass you use Bogans which is essentially an expiring contract.

Phoenix trading for Green makes sense if McDonough was a strong advocate for trading for and re-signing Green.

Ainge should know which players McDonough likes.  All I know about his biases is that he was a guy who pushed for the Celtics to draft Bradley and Rondo.

I think that is a good plan. Sounds like they can easily absorb  Bass's contract and he would add good depth and be an expiring contract in the near future.

Do the Suns still have their pick? I would trade for that one if they don't bite on Minny's or Washington's pick. There's still a chance they fall out of the playoff race considering how Memphis is playing since the Lee trade.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I wonder if the C's can build a deal with Phoenix around Humphries and Green for Okafor and Len?

I think that could be very interesting.  It gives the C's a nice young center to try to develop, and a little more space under the tax line.  For the Suns it gives them an upgrade on the wing, and someone who could thrive in their system, as well as a bruising, rebounding big man who can run the floor and clean up the offensive boards.

I am convinced that the Suns owners are staring at the possible revenues of an unexpected playoff run, and are going to push for the 8th seed, and this is the type of deal that does that, without giving up too much of the future, and without giving up too much cap space either.  They will still be able to restock with all their draft picks this year, while also hitting the free agent market to find a running mate for Bledsoe going forward.

If Phoenix wanted to save more money for cap space this summer, they could include Gerald Green too (although he has actually been an important player for them this year).

And if the C's did this, I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled in a third team to send Okafor to, in order to get a guy with a contract next year, and maybe an extra asset.  Maybe someone like Boozer, or maybe Bargnani.

Maybe something like this:

Boston gets: Bargnani, Len, Hardaway, maybe a late first rounder
Phoenix gets: Green, Hump
NYK gets: Okafor

This gives the C's some nice young assets, and also gets a very interesting piece in Bargnani, who I still have hope for, in the right system.  Put him next to Sully, and catching passes from Rondo, and maybe he could be useful next year.  Plus, he will be an expiring contract next year, which could be important if Danny wants a quick turnaround.

Okafor for Green sounds like a great deal for all parties. Green gets to go on a playoff team and contribute. Okafor gets to collect his money. C's can bolster their lottery chances and their salary cap situation for next year. Suns shore up their SF slot.

I would throw in any other player not named Rondo or Sully that the Suns would find useful to acquire a 1st rd late lottery pick (do they have the Wolves pick? Wolves are more likely to end up in the lottery rather than the Wiz).

PHX is $5M under the salary cap so we could send them Hump/Green for Okafor+filler (roughly) and possibly get two useful picks. Wouldn't be 2 2014's but PHX has a lot of picks to play with. Yes it's a lot to give up but I think that puts us as a bottom 2 team.

Chris, was it you who recently confessed being quite high on Len's potential?

Not knowing too much about the 2014 draft class, is it possible that one of PHX's many 1sts might net a better C prospect than Len?

I've mentioned him before in passing I think.

I am definitely a fan of his potential.  He is raw, but he has the potential to be a top 10 starting center in the league if he develops.  He has all the tools.  And with his lack of production to this point, he might be a guy you can buy low on.

Based on where the Phoenix picks will, be, it is very unlikely that you would get a center prospect anywhere near as good as Len, unless Willie Cauley-Stein freefalls (which is the opposite of what appears to be happening).
