Should KG's number be retired

I was at the game last night during KG tribute video they showed the retired numbers and showed a empty number spot. I got the feeling his number would retire in boston

Even if we completely ignored the championship and his massive on-court contributions, KG completely changed the culture of the team and the city's attitude towards the team. It is impossible to quantify what he means to the city of Boston (same with Paul). Just based on that alone he deserves to have his number retired, here; we are talking about a once in a lifetime thing.

Eh, I love Perk. But I really don't think that's even debatable. Allen could have some arguments, but not Perk.

Wyc has already said KG and Pierce's numbers are going up.

KG was far more important to the team, both in the championship year and otherwise, than Ray was. Same deal re: Perk.

Seeing the way KG embraced being a Celtic, though, I think he's qualified now.

Was there also and I remember this too. I think KG gets retired, if not, #5 won't be used unless it's a superstar Celtic ready to bring another dynasty.

PS those tribute videos gave me chills. Never experienced anything like that.

Boston has so many retired numbers that in a sense I think that it lowers the bar. So many of the Celtics up there didn't have the impact or strength of play that KG did. Can't leave him out.

Or you go the other way and make it more difficult to get up there.  Frankly I think about 4 numbers should be taken down.  Really don't measure up in the scheme of things, and frankly that is what I think with KG.  Sure we don't have a title without him, but we don't have that title with Rondo, Allen, Pierce, and Perkins either and maybe not even guys like Posey.  Now sure KG is not Posey or Perkins or even Rondo (at the time of the title), but he certainly wasn't much different than Allen who are both way behind Pierce as far as Celtics history.

It was a great 6 years, but KG should not be in the rafters with Russell, Cousey, Hondo, Bird, McHale, Parish, and some day Pierce.  He just didn't put in the time in green to be remembered as an all time great Celtic (all time great, no question, but not an all time great Celtic).

Also, he really came 1 quarter short of a second championship. He gave us all he got while he was here, he'll be fully deserving when the time comes.

It is harder, but KG meets the criteria.

You bemoan that he's equal to Ray and then push him nearer Perkins/Posey but was in a different class from all of those guys and sustained that high level of player longer as he stayed.

They're not taking numbers down, and since they're not doing that KG needs to go up. Otherwise its insulting when he was a better player and a better Celtic than many up there and retired.

What qualifies kg to have his numbers up then? His stats were modest here vs what he did in minny. He helped us win but so did allen, perk.

I think putting up a number due to popularity and bc he is considered one of the best pfs of all time is not right.

Guys like bird, mchale, parish deserve their numbers to be retired. Can you really compare kgs career as a celtic compared to these guys?

His stats his first two years were in line with MVP caliber performances, we just played him less minutes to keep him fresh and he shot less to give Pierce/Allen touches.

His adjusted +/- were top of the league even after his injury for several years. Just as good as in Minnesota despite his injury and aging.

He was better in Minnesota, but he was also in his prime then. His play earned it while he was here.

He had a much larger impact on that Celtics team, the organization as a whole, and basketball in the city of Boston than either Perk or Ray ever had.

Call his stats modest or whatever, but it was abundantly clear from Day One, the difference that '07-08 Celtics team was to its predecessors.  On & off the court.  You could see it that first opening night against Washington.  To me, that was attributed much more to KG than any other member of that basketball team.  He was the difference.  Its a joke to try and lump him with Perk.  Ray made a difference too but nowhere near the same impact as KG. 

Besides being teammates on the same team, its night & day what KG and Perk brought to the Celtics. 

Pierce is the best Celtics of the past 20 years but KG had the biggest impact.
