Jeff Green for Asik makes a ton of sense for both teams.

Green becomes one of the better 6th men in the league backing up Parsons and Terrence Jones, gives Houston another scorer as a 3rd 0r 4th option, and allows them to go with a really athletic small ball team because Dwight is patrolling the paint.

A lineup of Lin,Harden,Parsons,Green,Dwight has some major firepower and fast break potential.

I'd be willing to throw in Faverani as well if the rockets want a big man back

for the c's they get a legit starting center to put next to sully and KO.

The Rockets will have $60 million or so committed to about 11 players next year with the ability to bring the whole team back at around $63 million, about the same salary they have now.

But if the team is the same the actual payroll will be $77 million because of Lin's and Asik's poison pill contracts. If the Rockets want to add an upgrade to the team they will have to use the MLE which adds another $6 million in salary.

That means if the Rockets stand pat and add an MLE free agent their payroll will be about $83 million. Houston has never come close to approaching that type of payroll before and I don't think they can afford to now.

Asik will be moved. The payroll realities of the situation, Morey's need to build a contender around Howard, and his trade happy past pretty much guarantee Asik, and probably Lin, will be moved.

Yeah, I think so (real talk). Houston are getting no good offers for Asik.

I think they'll keep him until next summer. Probably get better offers then when teams are more willing to make drastic changes to their lineup. Better chance someone who will give up value for a starting center.

Nobody is offering Houston value right now. They want to make a deal. There is just no deal to make. Best off to stand pat for now and make a deal further down the line. What is being offered now will still be available 6 months from now. No need to rush into a bad deal. Hold out for a better offer. A good offer. Something they haven't gotten yet.

Asik is definitely going to be moved.

Any good GM will say, "I'm not going to trade this guy anymore!"

I don't think Daryl Morey would want to pay 15 million for a Center that isn't going to play, and deserves to be playing starting minutes.
But the cap hit is only 8ish million because they have only been paying him 5 million the last two years.  For Houston it isn't that big a deal, the problem they are having is the acquiring team didn't get the benefit of the two years of under paying and thus would actually be paying the full 15 million for one year (even with just the 8 million cap hit).  Thus, for a team to acquire Asik they need to have some sort of financial incentive and in that there just isn't a market.

The cap hit's the same for whatever team has him. So's the $15M. While it's great for Houston that they got something of a bargain for the last 2 years they're still not going to be happy about paying $15M for a short-minute backup that's not part of their future and is also a malcontent.

I know the cap hit is the same no matter what, but the team acquiring Asik is paying Asik 15 million for one year, rather than 26 million for 3 years.  The new team doesn't get the benefit of the underpayment the first two years and just gets hit with the overpayment for the third year.  That is the problem Houston is having (though that would have been lessened a bit if they traded him December, the longer they wait the harder that financial part becomes).

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

Next summer he'll be harder to trade than he is now because instead of getting him for a season and a half for $17M they'll get him for 1 year for $15m. The money's worse and so's the amount of time he's under contract for. And while it's a deal for some teams that his cap hit is so low next year, it's hard to imagine that teams that strive to avoid paying luxury tax will be happy paying $7M over their cap number.

Asik's not playing isn't going to help Morey get a deal done. Asik is either really hurt, which will steer teams away or he is a malcontent sitting out because of a lack of playing time. Either way it severely hurts Asik's trade value.

Houston has to be able to get Asik back playing and playing solid minutes to regain some value otherwise the overriding issue will be his $15 million balloon payment and not how he could actually help a team.

Well it looks like we can close this chapter

No way.  The above is pretty classic GM-speak.  It means nothing, one way or the other.

This isn't even classic GM speak.  This is so comically over the top posturing that it can't even be considered that.

No one for a second is going to believe Asik is staying in Houston, and they are going to pay him $15 million next year, while he piles up DNPs.

By the same token, whatever team trades for Asik will be paying $15M for a starting center that they'd hope to have on their team going forward as opposed to paying $15M for a backup that's leaving when his contract is up, leaving the team with no assets in return for him.

If he doesn't drop his demand of a good pick and a young good player (whose contract is also good) then he'll be DNPing it up for a long while.

I think he drops his demands.

I'm fine with him staying a Rocket...the longer he sits on the bench, the less I would want him on the Celtics.

My team is on the floor.

I don't think Daryl Morey would want to pay 15 million for a Center that isn't going to play, and deserves to be playing starting minutes.

Maybe, but I think he would want even less to make a bad deal.

The disconnect there is that it's not Morey paying him - he just has to worry about his cap number.  But ownership would be cutting those checks and it's unlikely they'd be too happy about it, especially if Lin's still there and getting his $15 million too.

Houston doesn't have Knick/Laker/Net money, and that's going to lead to pressure on Morey, especially since the Rockets still seem like they're a piece or two away from legit contention.

The bigger disconnect is Asik's value. It's pretty good for the team that trades for him and next to nothing for Houston. Morey can help his team by trading Asik for draft picks and players that are worth more than Asik's role on the team but still end up trading Asik for less than he's worth. If he keeps Asik instead of trading him for lesser value he's basically cutting off his nose to spite his face.
