Ainge: I've always believed you build through the draft (1/24)

Tank away I say, as long as Rajon Rondo is still driving the Celtics tank when all is said and done. He is the guy I believe we should rebuild around. That will give me confidence in Danny Ainge. I should be confident because he did use Paul Pierce and Rondo in the same sentence above as key building blocks. You would think he is using the same blueprint then.

I don't want to see rondo moved either but if some team gives us something so ridiculous in return i'd expect danny to hop on it.

the flexibility of what this team can do in the off season and next is something to really look forward to. we need to find our cornerstones for the next 10 yrs in the next couple seasons.

Pierce was in trade talks along the way so none of this is a promise from Ainge that he wouldn't trade Rondo for the right deal.  I believe that Ainge is not looking to trade Rondo and plans to try and extend him though.

technically our last championship came through the draft..#5 pick that netted us allen, guys that ainge drafted like Al Jefferson that brought us garnett, and the role players around them like perk/rondo

so there are many ways to skin a cat so to speak. but it seems it all still comes down to netting a top pick. whether that means drafting your superstar and developing them. or trading for them.

and for those saying "well the lottery never worked for the celtics" lets not forget they couldve kept chauncey billups/joe johnson...that wouldve been a pretty nice team in the 00's if pitino wasnt such a horrible GM

I think it's fair to say that it appears as though Rondo will be here until the summer.  He's obviously not close to 100% yet, and I doubt he'll look all that great by the trade deadline.  It makes sense for the team to hold onto him for a while.  But I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealt over the summer depending on how the extension talks go at that time.

Parish came along with McHale in the Joe Barry Carroll trade. He'd already been in the league few years. I can't believe it hasn't been pointed out yet.

Not to be a jerk but this just reads as a whole lotta nuthin' to me. If the Jefferson trade is considered building through the draft, I think all this leaves is free agency. Trading or keeping drafted players isn't any kind of philosophy. Draft picks have value. Players who were drafted can have value. The sky is blue. The only thing I could possibly discern from what he said is that we might not move players to get space to sign FA's. That doesn't mean it doesn't and hasn't worked, though.
