“I’ve always believed that you build through the draft,” he said. “And whether those drafted players are Al Jefferson, who you love, and Delonte West, who we developed and loved, and then move them for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen — or whether those draft picks turn into Rajon Rondo or Paul Pierce and they’re with you forever.

To me that last sentence can hush the "trade Rondo because he will be to old soon, or just so we can tank" people.

I believe it was the poster Chris who posted in other threads that the C's can sign him to a 3yr 17 mil per extension in July. This makes the most sense to me , we build around Rondo for 3 yrs and see if we can build a contender in that time. If after 3 years Rondo breaks down, or doesn't like the direction of the team he can hit free agency for one more payday at age 32/33 .

Hope we land a top 3 pick, but if we land anything after that , I would try to package it with a few other picks and land a big time player.

My Wish list
Marc Gasol (FA in 2015)
Cousins
Kevin Love

If we can land one of those big men to team up with Rondo ,I will be very happy .

It's worth nothing, of course, that Paul Pierce, of "with you forever" fame was traded this summer. You might've heard something about that.

Exactly what I thought when I read it. But you know what he means.

If by "forever," Danny means "at least until the age of thirty-three," I'll take that . . . for now.

We can only give Rondo a 3 year extension at 15m per this offseason.

It could just as easily mean that Ainge didn't trade them while they were on a rookie contract.

Let's just stick with the CelticsBlog standard of having it mean whatever we want it to mean.

I want it to mean Rondo's staying forever.  Great news for me!

There are a few posters who want it to mean Rondo's getting traded tomorrow.  Woo hoo for them!!

Ya know, I was p---ed a bit at your meme pic that was a fail since there was no story...bro...it was an opinion. and more that I got a 10 day ban for engaging in a heated debate with links and facts hurled back and forth. I got heated. I ate the ban. You just straight up trolled. That is against the forum rules. Can you form some rebuttal because if this place devolves into one word answers like above or flashing misapplied meme's this site suffers.

The CD joke...that was precious but when you got 15 stars under your avatar you can do as you like and they have dropped knowledge bombs before so whatever but you just bring nothing to this topic and your not within the rules so stay bent elsewhere since I'd like to keep it a topic with responses for and against that are based on some fact i missed or quote or something. I'm trying to learn. I see that video title as very misleading.

Watch that vid.

Rondo...as annoyed as I have seen him in a while...

"Who said that?"
"Did Danny say that?"

Goes on to talk about how he'd stay for ten years but it's not all in his control.

I'm not seeing this the way you all are. I want Rajon to stay but I am less confident then before Danny spoke and  growing less after this video with a nice title.

They say when you have to explain a joke it isn't funny, so I'll try to clear this up as quickly as possible.

I wasn't mocking you. I was mocking the whole process. Because of the nature of free agency (often described as a courtship) I was mocking the ambiguities of the process and likening it to the way a awkward teenager who grew up in the 90s (as I was) reacted to their own ambiguous courtships of ladies. And, I thought the notion of Danny Ainge sending Rajon Rondo a Usher heavy mix-cd was HILARIOUS.

If you wanted real substance, like real nitty gritty, Danny Ainge's comments basically say, 'I'm doing everything I can to resign Rondo, and I want him and everyone to know that. I understand that his CBA dad said he couldn't date until after he turns 15, but I'm sayin now, I'm in it, I know other guys are gonna try , cuz Rondo is awesome, but I'm in it.'

And I made that a joke too, about the process, because the politics of it are funny.

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

Wow...Rondo's not the only one that needs a mixtape.  But seriously, get a sense of humor.

Trade Rondo to New Jersey to join the old crew. The Nets have a pick kicking around somewhere still.

You got more stars than some constellations.
You know your basketball cuz I've read your comments.  You got the dopest avatar on this site.  Having said that I am not an Usher fan.. ;D

IMO..

Rondo playing is giving Danny leverage because in a "what have you done for me lately" world his stats matter. They will suffer. He could go lights out but that is unlikely so his risking his body and leverage. He's been a good soldier and provided few soundbites. That's a good thing. He hasn't said anything of concern.
D.A. saying we tried but were justifiably turned down and this guy is gonna get a lot of money and a lot of interest IS concerning.

Rondo's terse long time no see demeanor and questions in response to questions about what Danny said...the whole thing is unnecessary. I am still not sure why Danny brought this up at all.

Some think he is gonna make it happen and this all confirms that. I already supposed that as did most observers that sighted no chatter about Rondo from the C's.

I take this new chatter all different. One person said the team is trying to do whats best for themselves...the team  and the player is trying to do what's best for him.

I like when Danny does stuff and I hear about it after.

When Danny uses the press to discuss future possibilities regarding Current players...I get a bad feeling.

Make no mistake, the Celtics would like to keep Rondo, but Ainge doesn’t like the notion that the team must “build around” Rondo, or any one player for that matter. “I don’t like saying that, whether it’s Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett or Ray Allen,” Ainge said. “And those guys are multiple-time All-Stars. I just don’t like ‘building around’ something. Everybody knows who the best players are on teams, but I just think that gives the players the impression that they’re more important than everybody else on the team and the rookies on the team. I just don’t like how that creates a culture of individualism as opposed to the whole team. [Rondo is] obviously a very important part of our team and has been for years. Some people are going to continue to use [those terms] whether I like it or not. I’m just saying I don’t like to use that.”

“I can’t ever be put in a situation where the sentiment of my relationship with the player prevents me from doing what’s best for the franchise. But that’s the extent of it.”

Danny has been talking a lot about Rondo...too much in my humble opinion.

Shut your pie hole Danny...please :-[
