Just playing around on the trade machine.  Tell me what you think.

To BOS- Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Greg Smith, and Trevor Ariza
To HOU- Jeff Green, Gerald Wallace, Phil Pressey, and protected pick from WAS
To WAS- Brandon Bass

For us, Smith and Ariza are expiring, but also help us field a lineup for the rest of this year without starting one of the D-Leaguers.  Houston gets the starting stretch 4 that they need, a sixth man in Wallace and some future prospects in Pressey and the pick to make up for them taking Wallace's contract on.  Washington gets a very solid big man to bring off the bench behind Gortat and Nene.

Taking on Jeremy Lin and giving up Phil Pressey wouldn't be my first choice, but we could do worse.  It's a way for us to shed Wallace without giving up one of our picks.  For the remainder of the season I would say Lin backs up Rondo and Bayless backs up Bradley(and Bayless is probably not brought back next year because Lin is under contract).

We would go into next year with Rondo, Asik, Sullinger, Bradley, Olynyk, Lin, Joel Anthony, Faverani(?), our draft picks (potentially higher because of this trade) and plenty of financial flexibility.

Well, just a thought.  What do you think?

  • Champions are defined by their rings.
I don't see this deal happening due to certain moving parts. For starters, Greg Smith has picked up his game recently, and shown that he can be their 3rd scorer and a paint threat. Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik along with Smith is basically Houston saying take these guys and give us Jeff Green and scrubs (aside from Pressey). We could do a straight up deal with Green and a pick for Smith and another player to match salaries. Washington also doesn't really need Bass with Nene running the starting PF.

Greg Smith has been out for the majority of the year so I think you are thinking about someone else, maybe you are confusing him with Terrence Jones? I think this deal is a possibility though. As overpaid as Wallace is, he still could help a contender like Houston be more of a contender. Ariza could fill in at SF for the year and would be a nice expiring for the Celtics to snag going into next year.

I think you are mistaken with Smith, but I really only included him to keep salaries close.  As far as Bass, I don't think he should be a starter on a playoff caliber team.  As a sixth man, he is very solid.  A three man rotation of Nene, Gortat and Bass is nice.  All three have played minutes at Center so any combo of the 2 could play together.  In certain situations they could even go big and play all 3.

WAS definitely isn't giving up Ariza AND a first for Bass. I'd be shocked if they even did Ariza.

Greg Smith picking up his game recently?  He has missed the last five games with injury and I am NOT seeing much of anything before that!!
