If Westbrook wasn't on the team, he'd probably average 30+ a season. He wouldn't shoot 50/40/90 though....But then again, he's averaging 30 now while shooting 49/39/88 and considering his volume, that's phenomenal.

In January/February he's shooting 54/44/88 averaging around 33pts per game with no Westbrook.

It's amazing.

Hey to say it but lebron is pretty much on another level than him.

Winning a Derrick Rose type MVP doesnt do much for me.

I mean, hes been incredible but Lebron is just better than him

Durant is putting together one of the top statistical seasons in NBA history right now. The Rose comparison is completely off base.

By PER Durant is on track to finish with the 8th best in NBA history as of today - beaten recently only by Lebron ('09,'13) and Jordan ('88, '91).

The closest statistical comparison to the year Durant's having is probably Bird's epic '87-88 campaign (the best of Bird's career statistically).

February hasn't started yet?

Anyway, I think the whole idea of a "Derrick Rose MVP" award is offensive to both players.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

That's the most impressive thing to me. No one else on OKC gets doubled with Westbrook gone, so the number of his open looks has decreased. But he's maintaining his efficiency. Who was the last guy to average more than 30 on 50% from the field and 40% from 3?

Haha. I meant Dec./Jan., sorry.

But then he had Westbrook in December, or part of it anyway.

Either way, it's impressive.

To answer Vox: only Bird in the season I listed has done it - assuming you round up from his 29.9 ppg. Bird of course had a 50/40/90 that year.

Jordan had 37% 3pt and 33.6 ppg in 1989-90.

There have been a total of six seasons with 27+ppg and 50/40 shooting - 3 by Bird, 2 by Durant (including this year, and one by Dale Ellis.

He's been better than LeBron by almost every metric and advanced stat out there.  LeBron's the better player until proven otherwise, but it's pretty silly to disparage this as a "Derrick Rose type MVP" as though he'd only win it due to voter fatigue and LeBron falling out of favor.  If Durant wins it this year, it'll be because he earned it by playing as the most valuable player in the league.  LeBron's better than him, but Durant's the best player this season so far.

This award is KD's to lose right now - not LeBron's.

I agree that it wouldn't be a Derrick Rose award at this point, but an argument can definitely be made that LeBron is still having the better year.  LeBron is still averaging 26 points a game on 58% from the field.  That's incredibly efficient for the amount he's scoring.  Also 1 more assist per game than KD.

I think the MVP race still has to be decided between those two.  But Durant's putting up legitimately great numbers, no two ways about it.

There is honestly no logical argument that can be made that LeBron is having a better overall season: KD is outranking LeBron in 14 statistical categories, including +/-, points per possession, defensive rating, WS/48, and PER.  Durant is, by and large, having the better season between the two right now and it's truly not up for debate.  Can the story change by the end of the season?  Absolutely - but as of right now, he's been playing the best of anyone.

And to add, OKC is #1 in the western conference right now.
