Wow, this draft really falls off after the first six guys (Parker, Wiggins, Embiid, Randle, Exum and Smart) and I'm not even a big fan of Randle.  I'm not sure what to think of Smart but I see a bit of Dennis Johnson in him.  Like Johnson, Smart is 6'4, strong, quick-handed, a solid more than great athlete and not exceptional in any one area of the game but solid all-around.  Everyone seems to be a role player in some form or another after the top six.

If McDermott's still around with the Hawks/Nets pick, I think I'd select him.  I don't think a lot of his college game translates but his shooting absolutely will.  His release is lightning quick.  I think he has the potential to be the best pure shooter in the NBA.  He might only be able to access it in dependent ways but I'd love to have him as a weapon off the bench attemping six threes a game and nailing like 45 percent of them.

Nice question...
I think Aaron Gordon will rise as a prospect once you put him next to guys in workouts. Assuming so, the odd man out of that group could actually be Randle if teams draft guard heavy or Smart/Exum if they go big. Any of these players would be a steal at 7.

At 22 TJ Warren or Montrezl Harrel both offer skill sets that are lacking on this team. One's a slow deliberate scorer and would be the most athletic big on our team by a mile. I'd also consider taking a flier on Chris Walker although I generally try to avoid players who have an over inflated opinion of themselves.

In Danny I trust though.  8)

I doubt Gordon will flourish in workouts.  A lack of polished scoring repertoire and shooting are his biggest weaknesses and since workouts involve shooting drills and trying to score against opponents, among other things, I can't see him standing out.  His game is about his hustle, unselfishness and defense, things that can certainly be on display in a workout but not enough to put him above someone like Randle for instance.

It sucks that the Harrison twins have been so underwhelming to the point that they're at best late first rounders right now.  It drops the overall quality and reduces the depth of the draft.  There's still time for them to resuscitate their draft stock but they both seem to lack the dynamic athleticism at their size to be stars.  Kasey Hill of Florida is another freshman who was thought to be a potential lottery pick having an underwhelming freshman season.  Even worse, he's actually pretty old for his class.

One freshman who's been I guess better than expected is Jordan Mickey of LSU.  He's very athletic, blocks a ton of shots (3.7) and is capable of putting the ball in the hoop.  If he enters, he could be the 7th player or even jump ahead of someone like Smart.

- It's highly unlikely that the Hawks/Nets pick will be worse than 20th.

- McDermott would be worth a shot at the 19th/20th pick as he seems to be a better version of Korver/Novak. Pretty safe pick as a scorer/role player despite his warts. Otherwise some Int'l player you can leave overseas or some slider.  Danny's been pretty good at getting talent later in rounds.

-It's the higher pick, whatever it might be, I'd worry about assuming they don't end up with Wiggins or Embiid on the board when the Cs are up.

Any opinions on Montrezl Harrell? He seems like he could be a Thaddeus Young-type player. DraftExpress has him listed 6'5.75'' w/o shoes though, which is not optimal for a PF.

I have no Idea how good any of these prospects actually are, so my suggestion is really general. Pick the most NBA ready guy on the board with the no. 7 pick, and use the no. 22 pick as a sweetener in a pick plus Bogans' unguaranteed money for a nice role player on draft day. Perhaps we go after Kirk Hinrich in a S&T. Hopefully somebody much younger.

For the Hawks/Nets pick, depending where it is, I'd look at Mitch McGary if he enters the draft.  He's out this year due to back surgery, but if he were healthy, he'd be in the 7-15 range of the draft, if that doesn't sound familiar.  He's a little closer to being a true center than Jared Sullinger (a couple inches taller and a little more agile, although he's still not a true 7-footer 6'10"-6'11", compared to Sully's 6'9").  He's a good overall rebounder/great offensive rebounder, and has the best outlet passing I've seen in college since Kevin Love (although Kevin Love was the best outlet passer I've seen ever. I don't get to watch Minnesota play -- does he still do that?  I used to stay up late just to see him grab a rebound and pass it to a streaking Aaron Afflalo beyond mid-court in one motion.  It was a thing of beauty).  Anyway, McGary isn't Love when it comes to outlet passing, but it's a real skill that doesn't show up on box scores, since it doesn't generally lead to assists.  He's also a very good passer from the high post, and is elite at stealing the ball, especially for a big.  His free throw shooting is mediocre, but improved this year before he got hurt, and he isn't as skilled at scoring as Sully.

The thing he needs to work on most is defensive positioning.  He's got the physical ability to play great defense, as indicated by his steals, blocks, and rebounds, but he's very aggressive, and susceptible to falling for the first move a player makes, or trying to jump a passing lane and not being able to get back in time.  I think some of that can be fixed, as he gains more experience against players who have multiple moves down low, which you never see in high school, and don't see every night in college.  Some of that you don't want to fix, as his aggression/energy is part of what makes him special.  But it's where he needs to improve the most, and what will keep him on the bench in the NBA (aside from health), if he doesn't.

But if his back checks out to the Celtics doctors at the combine, he's worth picking.  If the Atlanta/Brooklyn pick is in the teens, he might be worth trading down for, as I don't see him going earlier than 20.

Anything past the top 10 or 15 players takes some serious scouting and watching of a lot of college basketball .....that I frankly don't care about other than my college team .   People get paid to attend and watch all this high school and college ball.  I usually watch local college what I grew up watching the ACC .   There could be the next Dr J in WA state but I would never hear about him where I live .

There are some gem out there ,   Usually two or three that will shock everybody and could  be NBA starters one day

Tanker out and hope for Parker

I would go Vonleh at 7 and pair him with Sully.  That would be nice.  At 22, can I add PJ Hairston to the list?  Kind of a knucklehead but he would have been an All-American this year if he didn't get suspended.  He joined the D-League this week.  Roy Williams said that he was the most dominate practice player he has EVER had this year.  He is a knock down shooter and he plays real hard.  Ideal 2 / 3 in the NBA, he will have a long NBA career...

Say draft day Embiid, Parker, Wiggins, Smart, Randle, Exum are gone. We have the 7th pick. From these potential prospects, who would you choose

Gordon
Hood
Saric
Grant
Ennis
Harris
Vonleh
GR3
Young

With the 22nd pick. From these potential prospects, who would you choose

TJ Warren
Vasilje Micic
Montrezl Harrell
Cauley Stein
Doug Mcdermott
Markel Brown
Sam Dekker
Chris Walker
Wayne Selden

If it really goes as you show, Gordon and WCS but I dont think WCS falls past 10. So assuming he WCS is not available at 22.

7th
I would first look to see who is willing to trade up for Gordon. Try to trade down 1-2 spots.

Either way im looking to take CAuley-Stein. WCS has the potential to be an elite rim protector and those are hard to come by.

22nd
Mcdermott is an NBA player. He might be low potential but he will make it in the league. The only guy in second tier I would consider over Mcdermott would be Wayne Seldon. He has the potential to develop into a starting SG in the Stephenson mold. I would also explore drafting and trading Mcdermott he is a great fit on a established team looking for bench help a team like the spurs or OKC could use him right away.

WCS is a must

no he is not. Sorry but unless he improves his rebounding numbers, it might be like drafting Fab Melo allover again imo. We already have Faverani who is a good shot blocker, above the rim guy who needs to put on strength and gain experience

I completely agree - WCS is going to be a bust.  Fab Melo 2.0....0 basketball instincts, he will get exposed bad in the NBA....
