I think DA really had no intention of making a better offer for Asik or really improving the team this year.. I feel like he saw a player at a really good price with and expiring contract the year after and gave it a shot.. with that he will no longer go after him unless Houston excepts a similiar deal..

Now with Anthony... he has to start and play right off or this trade will be a failure... for one   this is tank mode and if he gets those minutes his value at a center will rise.. Makes 3.8 as a player option... if he doesnt play hes gonna take that option, if he does play and could put something up his will look for 5-6 mill somewhere else.. if DA picks up anpther contract and get 2 seconds for it would be a huge downfall because Crawford could have just walked next year..

What makes or breaks this trade is Philly making (or not making) the playoffs.  Joel Anthony doesn't matter at all.  If he gives us something, or walks at the end of the year (giving us cap space), it's gravy.  But if he has Keith Bogans' role until the end of 2015, it doesn't matter if the Philly pick is in the 15-20 range.

Yeah I dont get the Joel Anothny needs to play well to make this trade look good thing. Anthony probably wont play much at all and if he does well we need a legit center in the line up anyway. If he picks up his option we have a 4 million dollar contract to trade next year. If he walks to go to a contender, hey even better. He is pretty irrelevant aside from being a money asset.

I think asik being overpaid and being asik has more to do with it

This sounds about right.

Can we tradd anthony again this year?

I think both Anthony and Bayless can be traded but only in 1 for 1 deals.
So in other words, Anthony cannot be traded again.  Because obviously, the only thing we can get back for Anthony in a 1 for 1 is someone like Anthony (with similar contract).  Can we package Anythony with a 2nd with the hopes of getting back someone just as bad but expiring?

You can't package him with another player, but I believe you can get multiple players back for him.  So, if Houston wants multiple firsts for Asik, then you can structure a deal as Asik for Bass, the Clippers pick, and the protected Philly pick via Miami, plus Montiejunas and Ronnie Brewer for Anthony, so that Houston gets PF depth, an adequate backup center, and picks.

I hope so, can't stand Asik and of we take him with that contract as a rebuilding team we would be the laughing stock of the NBA.

Asik.... Anthony.... How are these two guys in the same sentance. Even with a corpse like Anthony we could always use an Asik... To expensive for my taste, but still Anthony is a corpse similar to what Theo Ratliff was in 2007.

i may be way out in left field here but i thought this trade made it pretty clear what ainge is trying to do.

we had a logjam with undersized pf/c on this team. we trade away a useful player for another one to fit into the logjam.

i get the feeling he is packaging a couple of our bigs in a trade and so he wants/needs a backup in place after that trade happens so we have some insurance there.

yep. there's no reason for DA to trade for Joel Anthony unless he has something else up his sleeve.  At least one of these picks will be used to facilitate a trade.  Personally, I think it has to be Asik.

Don't really know how the trade would occur except that Bass and at least one pick would be involved - or even Bass + the 2 first rounders for Asik and we use out Paul pierce trade exception to absorb Asik.  Or Bass and Olynyk and the 2014 philly 1st for Asik.

sounds right on...I completely over looked that - so now we have Sully, KO, Hump, Vitor, JA, and Bass...not to mention you could have Crash and Green play the 4. what gives...what's the next shoe to drop?

Don't know what the big deal about Asik is.  He is ok, but not a franchise player.   DON'T OVER PAY DANNY!!!

I am more concerned about KOs minutes - now that we added another big to an already cluttered roster at the 4 and 5.

He didn't trade for Joel Anthony.  He traded for picks.  Taking Joel Anthony was part of the deal.  DA would have much preferred to take nobody back, but that wasn't the price.

He may use those picks in the next month, at the draft, during the July signing period, next year, or he may draft players.  There is no specific plan, other than to convert assets who's usefulness would run out in a month into assets who's usefulness will last another season plus.  No more, no less.

If Ainge can get away with giving up just the Clippers pick, the protected Philly pick and either Humphries or Bass, Ainge would be underpaying relative to Asik's value.

asik is on a contending team and is so cancerous now that the rockets won't even play him.
asik wants to leave a CONTENDER because of his own selfish motives... and c's fans want this guy on the team?
this guy makes carmelo anthony and duh-wight howard look like saints.
