Not that Joel Anthony is the answer at C for the C's, but now that he's here is there no possibility that Asik gets traded to the Celtics before the deadline?

Did Danny finally say "forget Houston"? Did he feel like Bass + player X for Asik was eventually not going to happen - I believe that we can't trade Joel because he was just involved in a trade am I right?

I don't think there's a connection... I think DA just wants assets. If the Rockets decide they'll trade Asik for Bass, I could see that happening too. I also doubt that Danny is really pursuing the Asik trade at this point anyway

I think DA really had no intention of making a better offer for Asik or really improving the team this year.. I feel like he saw a player at a really good price with and expiring contract the year after and gave it a shot.. with that he will no longer go after him unless Houston excepts a similiar deal..

Now with Anthony... he has to start and play right off or this trade will be a failure... for one   this is tank mode and if he gets those minutes his value at a center will rise.. Makes 3.8 as a player option... if he doesnt play hes gonna take that option, if he does play and could put something up his will look for 5-6 mill somewhere else.. if DA picks up anpther contract and get 2 seconds for it would be a huge downfall because Crawford could have just walked next year..

It might help getting Asik because the Celtics can now offer Houston a veteran back-up center.  They can't aggregate Anthony's salary with someone else, but if they can figure out who to add, they can structure a deal so that it is Joel Anthony for stuff, Asik for Bass or Humphries, and draft considerations to Houston.

Joel Anthony is a high level third stringer to a decent but little below average backup center. His presence has no impact on whether Ainge goes out and acquires a quality starting center like Omer Asik.

I thought we couldn't trade him now....

What makes or breaks this trade is Philly making (or not making) the playoffs.  Joel Anthony doesn't matter at all.  If he gives us something, or walks at the end of the year (giving us cap space), it's gravy.  But if he has Keith Bogans' role until the end of 2015, it doesn't matter if the Philly pick is in the 15-20 range.

I think both Anthony and Bayless can be traded but only in 1 for 1 deals.

Anthony can still be flipped to another team, the Celtics just can't package his contract with other salaries as part of the deal before the trade deadline.

What if he picks up his option for next year?
Thats kind of messes up Danny's plans to clear space, doesn't it?
