To make it clear, in case 76rs make the playoffs for 2014-2015
Whats our compensation exactly?

Is it 2 76rs 2nd round picks? Or one from MIA and one from 76rs?

If its mia this deal kind of sucks. How do u potentially go from a possible 1st to near dead last 2nd round pick?

If the Sixers make the playoffs, we get their first round pick. If they don't this year or next, we get two second round picks.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Are we really tanking, or tanking to get a good asset in return for a great superstar?

As in a superstar that'll be on our roster before the trade deadline?

Great trade by Danny in my humble opinion.

Two questions--

First... Say by the stroke of luck Philly made the playoffs this year and we were gifted three firsts around 15-25. How far up in the draft could one reasonably expect to move?

Second... I understand Anthony's contract is a player option at 3.8 for next year. However, if we buy him out by a certain date and he signs with another team this season does that negate his player option? Meaning if we waive him he might as well be an expiring?

Anyone who knows the CBA more than I do, I would love an elaboration.

Packaging picks in the back half of the draft usually lets you move up 2-4 spots.  Earlier in the draft and adding a pick might only let you move up a spot.  What it really amounts to is finding a team that doesn't like any players available at their spot and wants to move down to save money and pick up an additional asset.

Player contracts with an option year contain a clause which specifies the status of the player option, should the player be waived before the option is invoked.  I would assume that it is usually guaranteed in case of a waiver.  If you arranged a buyout, it would probably involve trying to negotiate paying out only a percentage of the team option, perhaps something like 75%.

But are the 2nd pick one from mia and one for 76rs for 2015?

2nd rounders can still be useful as fillers to a deal.

Basically what danny is doing is ridding this team of talent. Bass has to be next right?

Tank full steam ahead!

Two observations:

1. Danny just turned two guys from the scrap heap into a possible first round pick, or at worst two second rounders. Nice move: lots of upside in the best case, and little downside.

2. I think this shows that Danny values accumulating assets more than clearing cap room, at least in the near term.

We get a 2nd from Miami.  Year is unknown, but my guess is 2016.

If Philly makes the playoffs this year or next, we get a first from them in that year.  If Philly misses the playoffs this year and next, we get a 2nd from them in 2015 (which will be a good second rounder, since they've missed the playoffs) and 2016.  So it's either a 1st from Philly and a 2nd from Miami, or three seconds total, two from Philly (including a relatively good one) and one from Miami.

Looking at next years salaries, his is the only one left that needs to go. Rondo, Green, Sully, and KO are staying. AB we'll see. And we're stuck with Wallace.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

If I was being cynical, I'd say that Bogans was excused from the team indefinitely so that he wouldn't be asked for in this trade, keeping him open for the Bass+Bogans+1st for Asik deal.

Giving us a depth chart of
Guards:
Rondo/Pressey
Bradley/Bayless

Wings:
Green/Wallace

Bigs:
Sully/Hump/Kelly
Asik/Fav/Anthony

If Philly makes the playoffs this year or next, we get a first from them in that year.  If Philly misses the playoffs this year and next, we get a 2nd from them in 2015 (which will be a good second rounder, since they've missed the playoffs) and 2016.  So it's either a 1st from Philly and a 2nd from Miami, or three seconds total, two from Philly (including a relatively good one) and one from Miami.

Thx . Clears it up. And yeah if we 76rs 2nd it will be a good one bc they miss the playoffs.

Bc now we are rammed at the pf/c i assume bass or hump or both havd to  next on their way out. I personally like anthoney. Pretty tough player and can play center due to strength and legth even though only 6'9

I think for taking on Anthony's deal and also giving out Crawford the Celtics should have gotten more than just a "probably not" 1st rounder.

From Goodman at espnboston.com:
Quote
The trade will save the Heat about $7.7 million in salary and luxury taxes this season and frees them on the $3.8 million they owed Anthony for next season. Depending on the Heat's salary-situation for next season, this is a deal that could end up saving them more than $15 million in salary and luxury taxes for a player who played just 37 minutes this season.

Also, I thought the Celtics would at least try to make a run at some free agents this fall. Anthony's 3.8 million would seem to discourage that, unless they have some more deals to unload contracts (Bass, Green) planned. I guess this also increases the odds Bradley stays, doesn't it?
