Bogans excused from the team indefinitely for personal reasons

Bogans was always DNP so not much effect on him being excused from the team. it's a different story if Bass become excuse from the team, everyone will be singing that he's about to be traded

It's speculation too, but often when no one is guessing it's because it's well-known that there's a legit reason but generally media won't disclose it if the player wants privacy.

...or it could be because Bogans isn't even relevant to the team, let alone the league.  Who knows.

I can understand where Bogans is coming from ... if he complained about PT.

I understand the guard rotation before Lee left, and Bogans was odd man out.

But after we got Bayless as a second ball handler, why would Phil Pressey even see the floor for one more minute.

In last night's game, with the second unit and Bayless at point, Bogans should have been in the game for Pressey.

Pressey does nothing on offense and was repeatedly torched on D.  The other team goes right at him.  He's a nice young man.  He'll be a star in China or Turkey.  But he's not an NBA player.

Whatever Bogans is or isn't, he's a much more physical and better defender, and a legitimate threat from the 3-pt line.

When Lee left, Bogans should have gotten a few minutes per game, unless and until Brooks beats him out.

I get letting the young guys develop.  But there has to be some integrity to the process or you lose control of the team.  Why play hard in practice and sacrifice everything for the team if the team considers you completely useless on the court and doesn't reward hard work and being a good teammate.  Stevens is a fair guy (witness Hump and changing the bigs depending on who's playing well).

Besides, it doesn't help the team or the development of young players to lose 9 in a row and play some bad basketball.

I think the C's were legitimately trying to win all these games.  If Stevens thought Bogans could've helped do that, I'm sure he would have given him at least a few minutes.  Last night was a great example.  When Pressey (and others - Olynyk, Wallace) were in last night, we lost momentum and essentially lost the game right there in the 2nd Q.

It was so obvious.  It must have been extremely demoralizing to the whole team to see that collection of players out there and how badly they were playing.  Bogans and/or Brooks couldn't have been any worse, and probably would have been better.

I don't know if Stevens didn't see that, or if it was Pressey's last game sendoff.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get another minute after Rondo comes back.

And if I were Bogans and that game just happened, I would have had a really negative reaction also.  But he knows he could've helped the team last night, and any statements about trying to get better and win games would seem hollow to him.  If you can't believe in what the team is selling ... no reason to stick around.

Or ... a family member might be ill.

I'd get your point if Pressey were playing like 20 minutes a night, but in the Rockets game, he played all of three and a half minutes and has seen his playing time drop considerably since Bayless was acquired.  Pressey's getting a shot simply because he's got some promise and more to prove than Bogans, who, at 33, is a 3 and D guy and will be nothing more than 3 and D guy.

Keith Bogans is still, technically, a member of the Boston Celtics.  But we might never see him in Boston again.
On 98.5 today, Ainge explained the Bogans situation.  Chris Forsberg transcribed it for ESPN Boston.com

"We were logjammed at all positions, but especially the 2 guard. He was not happy and just felt like — him and I both — came to the conclusion that he should just go home, spend time with his 10-year-old son and we’re just going to move on. I told him stay ready, if we have an injury and need him to come back. But it’s better for the team and better for him to part ways."

Basically, it’s bye-bye Bogans.  Ainge was very candid about the situation, being sure to mention that Bogans was paid very well, but he’s a “competitive” guy who wants to play.  The Celtics, basically, now have a guard hanging out in the wings in case anyone else goes down.  Instead of going to the D-League the Celtics have sent Bogans to the Y (MCA) league*.  He’s getting paid his $5 million to sit at home.
The reasonable question you might ask now is… “why not just cut him?”

“It’s a unique situation, very unique,” admitted Ainge. “His value to us is he has nonguaranteed contract and, for us, he’s a chip at the trade deadline or this summer, most likely, that has value around the league. We don’t want to release him, we don’t want to let go, we want to keep that chip as we’re rebuilding.”

That is a very valuable bullet to have in your six-shooter.  At the very least, it’s $5.3 million you get to clear.  But it’s a GREAT way to pair a couple of mid-level salaries and send them to a team looking to save a bit of cash.  Add Bogans to Jeff Green or Brandon Bass and you have the potential to get a star-level player who perhaps doesn’t fit somewhere anymore while saving another team some big money.

Consider the possibility of Bogans being moved in a multi-team deal to a taxed-out franchise that gets to waive him.  That team will not only save the $5.3 million, but also who-knows-what in big tax money, making his contract potentially worth twice what he’s paid (or more).  There are teams that will happily give up assets in situations line that if the owner pushes them to save money.  So it’s easy to see why the Celtics have taken this approach.
Basically, the Celtics could cut him, but they’ll have to pay him anyway, so why not pay him while retaining a potentially critical trade chip?

It’s not an ideal situation, and Bogans will have to find a way to keep himself busy and in shape, but it’s the best way to handle this situation.

How would you feel about getting paid $1 million year to sit at home on the condition that you have to survive using an Amish level of technology?  For some people, there's a limit to how long they could handle that, but that's the sort of stress for some people that might approximate how Bogans feels about being benched.
