The bubble bursts for those who were hoping LMA would become available.

I consider this news to be evidence in favor of my belief that winning is more important than a sexy location or local tax rates when it comes to the majority of top players deciding where to go.  (And I'm not sure I want anything to do with the guys who are all about the money.)

There's also the fact that LMA was never seriously leaving, at least according to Blazers Edge and Neil Olshey.

So, really, it has nothing at all to do with your beliefs, even the ones I agree with.

Portland is supposedly a great city, so that doesn't hurt. And...yes...his team is doing well and doesn't have any debilitating contracts I can think of that will cause them problems. No real reason for him to leave.

It's like if the NBA press and fanosphere saw a couple arguing about dishes, and mentally thought, 'Oh man, I might just ask her out one day once she leaves him.', but then they just got the Facebook notification that they got engaged.

'We were like THIS CLOSE to going out earlier last year,' says single NBA fan to other single NBA fan who are at the bar on Tuesday at 3pm.

It's funny you say small market like that, little known fact...the Blazers over the past 10 years have paid like the 4 th most in luxury tax among the entire league.

Yeah Paul Allen really likes his winning teams.

The Blazers are my absolute favorite What-If team of the last ten years... they could've had something really special between Roy, Oden, and Aldridge.

Surprised that the Blazers have done so well this year. I thought they would be tapering off before now. They are doing the right thing trying to cash in quickly on this strong run to get L.Aldridge locked down long term. Still not convinced they can maintain this strong run of form.

I hope Aldridge waits. He shouldn't jump the gun on this. Wait and see if his team can maintain this. See how they do in the playoffs. Or if they can grow (or not) next season. Jumping into a long contract just because you have had 4 happy months is a bad plan. One that has a strong chance of coming back to bite him on the ass.

I don't see the cause for concern here.

The Blazers have a core of young players who are proven competitive and productive, and there's now a pretty good sample size of those guys playing well together.  It's not just this season.  The core 4 -- Lillard, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge -- were great last year, too, the Blazers just didn't have a bench.

Defense, lack thereof.

Eh, Matthews and Batum are solid defenders.  Aldridge is more to blame for any lack of defense than the other guys I mentioned, because as a big man he has more responsibility there.

And again, these guys have been playing winning basketball for a season and a half now.  There's a formula there that will work.  Now that they have some better supporting pieces on the bench and a center who can bother shots at the rim a little bit, they're winning a lot of games.

I don't think they'll be quite this successful every season going forward, but I think that's a perennial 50-55 win team at least.  The Blazers front office has shown they can make moves for quality supporting pieces, too, so the team should only get better.

The Blazers appear set up to be similar to the Dirk-led Mavs from the mid-to-late '00s.  Seems likely to me that wherever Aldridge might go next would be worse than that, not better.

Glade they are doing well.....we understand bad luck and hard times .........just shoots down another attempt for Lakers to raid the small market teams of elite talent.

Maybe he really likes Portland.  Maybe he wants to get as much money as possible (which means staying).  Maybe he really likes playing with Lillard, Batum, etc.  Maybe he really likes the coach.  Couple all of that with a team that wins games and is legitimately in the title discussion = no reason to leave.
