I just saw this trade proposed by a Detroit fan on the Detroit RealGM board and thought it was very interesting, and even plausible:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nyj3nzt

Bos out: Hump
Bos in:  Asik

Hou out: Asik and Montejunas
Hou in:  Josh Smith

Det out: Josh Smith
Det in: Hump and Montejunas

Why for us: we get our defensive center without giving up draft picks.

Why for Houston: They have a Big Three of Howard, Harden and Smith and move their two moaning players.

Why for Detroit: Gives Dumars a reset with Hump's expiring, because Smith, Monroe, Drummond is not working and they get Montejunas.

Bash away guys!

I wonder if Det would trade Smith or one of Monroe/Drummond. Det was the high bidder for Smith last summer and his value's likely down a little since then. He'd bring back the least value in a trade and I don't think the Drummond/Monroe duo has been any better than Drummond/Smith or Monroe/Smith.

All the Pistons fans on their RealGM board are really down on Smith and down on Dumars because of it.

Here's just one of a 91 post thread:

Most share the same sentiment. This deal gives Dumars a do-over.

If all we are giving up is Hump, it looks like a win for the C's.  I don't see us resigning Hump anyways.

Logic failure... if the Pistons were willing to give away Josh Smith for nothing but Humph's expiring and Montejunas... we should simply offer Hump's expiring and Oly for Josh Smith.

Done deal.

I have to agree.

Josh Smith is a FAR better player than Asik.  Both players are about the same age and neither has much upside above where they are now, but if you had to choose between the two you'd have to he nuts to choose Asik (a role player type producer) over Smith who can dominate games on both ends of the floor.

Also trading Hump for Asik is basically giving away a $12M expiring contract that has greatvalue toour rebuild process, in return for a player on an ugly contract who is probably actually no better than hump.

Hump has been up around the 13 point, 10 rebound, 1.5 block (per 36 minute) mark his entire career.  We have seen first hand this season how good he can he, abd how much he impacts the game on both ends.  I would argue that Hump is a better player then Asik right now, and we have the potential to 're-sign him for cheap next season if we want.

I would keep Hump and KO than have Josh Smith.

Hump displays a lot of toughness in the paint, a real big man defender.

KO, on the other hand, is taller and has far better offensive skills over Smith plus he got post moves which is practically non-existent in Smith's offensive repertoire.

Call me nuts, then, because I would rather have Asik.
