Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe, a top contender for the NBA's Most Improved Player award, is out indefinitely after the team determined he needs a surgical procedure to repair cartilage in his right knee, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that the scope and severity of the injury will not be known until Bledsoe is in a surgeon's care, but he is suspected to have suffered meniscus damage during his Dec. 30 return to Los Angeles to face the Clippers. Bledsoe was selected No. 18 overall in the 2010 draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who immediately traded him to L.A.

The super-athletic point guards in the NBA are dropping like flies. Wall better watch out.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Bummer, I have enjoyed watching the Phx Suns take out team after team. I think they should be able to stay ahead of the Cs in terms of the lottery, but this is a big blow to their playoff hopes.

On a somewhat related note, Jeff Hornacek is a heck of a coach - who would have thought that he could have so much success out of such [what was thought to be] a lackluster group.

An interesting point to ponder: Will all of these injuries to shorter, faster players begin to coax GMs back toward drafting more for size and/or strength? Guys like Bledsoe, Gordon, Rose, and Rondo are great to have, but not when they're missing huge chunks of time.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I hope this doesn't mean they become sellers. We are going to have trouble unloading any of our vets at this rate.

Maybe. I do think it's more of an issue of style rather than stature though. Those guys are probably too reliant on their physical prowess. Then again, CP3 has missed more than his share of games too.

What is going on with injuries in both the NBA and NFL? I have never seen so many star players on the sidelines.

Are you asking GMs will be more inclined to look for guys like Oden and Bynum?
