Jackie was on WEEI earlier today and she mentioned,

-GM's around the league expect Ainge to be a seller.
-"Everybody" is on the table. Even Rondo.
-She expects another move before the deadline and maybe multiple deals.

Again, none of this is breaking news but it was an interesting listen and I just generally really enjoy Jackie.

That's been the "league" thought on things since the start of the season.

True for the most part.

I think the rumored Asik deal had some people second guessing a bit there.

The problem is Rondo may not come back soon enough for them to get a fair offer before the deadline. Even if they've decided internally Rondo doesn't fit the rebuild, they won't just deal him for peanuts.

This offseason would be the "deadline" to deal him. They can't go into next season with Rondo unless they're sure they're going to re-sign him.

I think Ainge will be a buyer if the right guy is available for a good price.  Asik is special enough as a player to make Ainge think about shifting into a more acquisitive mode.

To me, the argument against the Celtics being buyers would be that if Ainge doesn't want to trade first-round picks, then he doesn't have much in the way of assets to be a buyer at the deadline.  So, I think he would most likely be a seller unless he finds a player valuable enough for him to part with a first.

ainge is going to sell as much as he can. then if he cant , tell the remaining players the media is bs and we want u here.

if we bomb the draft ala 2007, meaning picking outside of the top 5, i can see danny trading for a ray allen again. he is not going to wait this rebuild out imo.  by the draft or FA he will at least sign a marquee player. then another etc. until we are contending

I think all the rumored Asik deal proved was that Ainge is willing to bring on assets if he can buy them low.  Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee is extremely low.  We obviously didn't want Lee on our books for 3 years.  We obviously didn't want to give up a 1st rounder.  That was akin to the Jordan Crawford trade or Ricky Davis trade.  If someone is giving away a reasonable asset for peanuts, you do it even if it doesn't fit your long-term goals.  Assets are assets.  He would have probably flipped Asik a year later after building up his trade value again.

Well in fairness Ainge was only offering pieces he wanted to unload anyways.

Danny is doing fine. First get the luxury tax threshold monkey off-the back. Then clear Courtney Lee's second and third year from the books.

Now he can sit and just offer the players he doesn't want to keep, and only listen to offers he likes. He's paid money and our 2016 2nd rounder to be at this position. He can stay put or make only moves that favor the Celtics.

In Danny I trust. We can expect more trades in which the Cs will get the best end.

I really think Danny has gotten better and better...he is now one of the longer tenured GMs, with what I assume is a reasonable level of job security.  This translates into being selective and crafty about the deals he makes...not all are winners, but he's one of the best out there I think.

when is trade deadline?

Thursday, February 20th at 3.00pm.

I think that the best thing for our franchise is to trade Bass, Wallace, and Green in that order if we can find any potential suitors.

As has been said, we won't be receiving anything of comparable value for Rondo so I assume we will try to resign him. I hope by the end of the season at least we realize what this team is capable of for next year with a healthy PG leading us.
