The New York Knicks have begun exploring their options in trading away J.R. Smith.

Smith was fined $50,000 on Wednesday for repeated unsportsmanlike behavior on the court.

Smith signed a four-year, $24.7 million contract in the offseason with the Knicks.

Smith cannot be traded before Jan. 15 and have privately acknowledged that it would be difficult to deal him.

Just in case you needed a good laugh on your weekday night...

Sad part is I would still trade Wallace for this clown. I suppose he should have kept those suits around for a little longer.

Now that's an interesting idea.

He actually has a very reasonable deal for the 6th man of the year. I know he is a bonehead and I don't really want him, but his value is at an all-time low right now. I have to imagine he will turn it around - somewhat - and be a worthwhile player. I mean he is making around the same amount as Courtney Lee...anything to get rid of Wallace.

Wallace for Smith, Peace and Aldrich may work cap wise.

Only issue is both Smith and Peace would still be around next season and are not the vets you want around young players.

I enjoy watching JR Smith play basketball.

I don't think I would enjoy watching JR Smith play basketball if he was on the Celtics.

MWP has a player option for next year for only $1.6 million. He might opt out to become a FA again and choose his own adventure.

Smith does seem like a bad influence, but would probably be easier to move in a follow-up deal than Wallace.

And then release smith and someone would take him off waivers.  Big salary savings and we get rid of Wallace's untradableb contract

Yeah, he's not as good as he was last year, but he's not as bad as he's been this year either.  And both of those levels are a couple notches over Wallace, for less money.

But I cringe at what JR would do on a genuine non-playoff contender (yeah, I've seen the standings, but they're indisputably trying) with a bunch of young guys around him.

Wow the Smith contract could eclipse the Wallace contract as the worst in th league ......if his attitude and skills continue to decline.

Not even close - Smith is only signed for two more years after this one for a cap friendly 6 mil/yr. He doesn't have the best attitude, but is infinitely more talented and it's not like all of Wallace's rants are making him the best teammate either.

If we somehow traded out Wallace for Smith, we should consider ourselves extremely lucky.

JR + Amar'e for Rondo + Wallace + Bass should work salary-wise.  Could add Hardaway or Shumpert and Faverani to get a prospect back while cutting payroll!  ;D *ducks*

Knicks trying to scare J.R. Smith straight with public, but empty trade talk. Of course, they understand there's no market for him.

JR is a great value a 6 mill a year however hes a bit of a headcase and match theat up with a young head coach.. its iffy... but for salry cap purposes I would engage a Smith and amare for say Wallace, Bass, and Green
