Looks like Andre Miller is not getting along too well in Denver, and the reports are that Denver will likely look to trade him.  Does anyone else thing that this is a trade maybe worth pursuing?

When it comes to quality point guards (the proper, pass first, 'orchestrate the offense' kind) Miller is probably one of the best out there.

The downside of course is that Miller is under contract for two years at $5M, he's not especially athletic, and he's 37 years old.

Still, I think he could be a nice fit in Boston in a lot of ways:

1. He would give us a proper PG who could start for us until Rondo returns from injury (assuming Boston makes a Crawford trade)

2. He would make a steady backup PG now (assuming Boston doesn't make a Crawford trade) and when Rondo returns.  Miller would give us some steady leadership on our second unit.

3. His experience and leadership might serve as a nice guide for the younger guys on the team this year and next.  Guys like Bayless, Crawford, Bradley and Pressey (and maybe even Rondo) could learn a thing or two from a guy like Andre Miller.

Salary wise, we could theoretically do a trade of Bass ($6.5M) for Miller ($5M) straight up, and we would shave about an extra $1.5M off our salary cap instantly.

Alernatively we could do a swap of Bogans for Miller straight up - nuggets may desire the expiring contract enough to accept this deal.

I think Miller would be more useful to our team than Bass because the closest thing we have to a pure PG right now is Phil Pressey, while we are absolutely stacked at the PF spots.  Also Hump has been thoroughly outplaying Bass and deserves more minutes - trading Bass out would allow us to move Hump to the starting PF spot, and would also potentially allow us to get more minutes to Olynyk / Fav.

The Bass trade makes the most sense financially becasue we owe Bass two years now regardless, and with this trade we'd be owing Miller $5M instead of owing Bass $6.5M over the next two years.  It would give us more breathing room under the tax threshold and more wiggle room for any potential trades out there.

If we want to get rid of him next year, he should also be pretty easy to offload later.  A lot of veteran teams out there (Miami is one example) would probably love to add a veteran PG like Andre Miller to their playoff roster.

The Bogans deal is probably less desirable, because Bougan's expiring contract might be more valuable to us now than the extra wins we might gain from an upgrade at the backup PG spot.  But throwing it out there anyway.

One detail not to be overlooked: Miller's contract is only partially guaranteed for next season (final year). If he is waived before the last week of June, he only counts for $2 million on the books.

That contract, like Bogans', could be especially useful on Draft Night.

Andre Miller for Brandon Bass makes a lot of sense. Manamal gets a backup 4 and the Celtics get yet another expiring contract. Plus the ability to move Crawford for an asset.

Adrian Wojnarowski:  Kings have been proactive in talks for exiled Denver guard Andre Miller, sources tell Yahoo. Multiple teams checking with Denver on Miller. There's a strong belief within league that Denver is working to find a trade package for Andre Miller within the next 24-to-48 hours.

I'd like to see Miller go to a contender.

Golden State? Not sure how they could get it done.

Denver already has a ton of bigs (Faried, Hickson, Arthur, McGee, Mozgov, and Randolph), so I don't see any reason why they'd be interested in Bass.

Warriors would be cool, I also think he fits in really well with the Pacers, but they seem to be content with having Stephenson as their secondary ball-handler and I don't know if Miller would want to ride the pine as the third guard off the bench.

Dre has always been a favorite of mine. We could've used him big time in the last few years as a superior backup for Rondo. Just couldn't afford him.

Dre is as tough as nails, still hits that pullup in the lane real well and is a real leader. I'm on board with Miller. Go to war with that guy anytime.

As others have said, though, he deserves to go to a contender. He'd be scary on the cHeat. Don't think they can get him though (I hope).

Another thought: Miami. Chalmers expiring deal, and a little sweetener?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Wasn't Andre Miller selected with the pick we used to trade for Vitaly Potapenko?

It would be a long time coming, but the reunion would be welcome. Sadly, his contract and age don't make a ton of sense for us moving forward.

Always liked miller would have loved him as rondos true backup.  Still a force posting up other guards.  I don't see him here with Bayless, pressey, Crawford and rondo.  Also think bass can net us a better option in trade.
Bass Crawford and a pick? Who could that bring to us

I always thought Miller looked like Richard Pryor....he's probably not as funny though.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Wouldn't like to see that.

He'd bring a toughness and maturity to that team  that would help their chances for that three-peat.
I've rooted for him when he isn't playing the Cs. Couldn't do it if he played with Judas and the cHeat. (That sounds like the name of some rock band.)
