This gets us 3 expiring contracts. A massive total of $20,500,000. We now have a team of pretty much all expiring contracts with the exception of Rondo/Sully/Green/KO.

We are now big time players in free agency. We can go out and   make an attempt to get some star power around Rondo and get some other key pieces in place.

This trade also makes us much worse this year, you think any of these Jazz players are making us better this season? This ensures we stay down for the season!

What picks would you be willing to part with to make a deal like this work and rent Utah's cap space out?

I'd give a first round pick, and the option to swap picks, but the option to swap picks should be lottery protected.

Utah gained two 1sts (2014 and 2017) and two 2nds (2016 and 2017) from Golden State in exchange for taking on Biedrins and Jefferson last season, IIRC.

Considering Wallace's contract, I imagine that Utah would demand a similar return for taking on both him and Bass, and compromising their own cap situation for next year. Possibly three 1sts.

Utah would want at least two, I'd imagine.  And I'd have no inclination to give them up.

Cap space is such an overrated asset to this board right now.    Personally I'd be much more interested in going the other way - trade Hump for a player with another year or two left on his deal plus some valuable assets.  We aren't contending for the next few years anyway, and I don't see many big FA targets looming that would make cap space a valuable thing to have, so let's use ours to accumulate more pieces for the future instead.

Granted it's easy for me to say that sitting in my chair; I'm not the one writing the checks.

I think it is wise to hang onto those draft picks and be patient with the longer term deals until we can get a Lee for Bayless type swap out.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Utah absorbed those contracts so they'll have it gone off their books by next year. I don't think any amount of our picks will warrant them trading those guys, unless one of the is a top 3 pick.

But just in case this happens, RESIGN BRANDON RUSH!
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine

Yup. Give away our firsts JUST TO GET WORSE FOR A CHANCE TO GET MORE LOTTERY BALLS FOR A CHANCE TO GET HIGHER IN THE DRAFT.

Mortgage our picks just to get worse so we can play lottery better.

And we still have to "battle" the Bulls, the Bucks, the Jazz themselves, the 6ers, Orlando ... for a high pick.

Edit:

And keeping Wallace might actually be good for tan-... people who-...screw it tankers. I don't know what happened to him but Crash is a shell of a shell of a shell of his former self.
