Don't know if this is true, but this is the first I heard of the Celtics giving up their 2016 second rounder in the trade. If true, I still think it's a good trade, just a little less-so. Here's the link: http://www.3sob.com/2014/january-2014/trade-season-is-upon-us/12225/

Understandable - it would have been robbery to move Lee for Bayless's expiring contract straight up.

I'm not one who values 2nd-rounders highly anyway.  If you like somebody that late that much, chances are you can just buy a pick with cash (like we got Bill Walker a few years ago).

A second rounder for roughly $12 - $13 million in savings is definitely worth it.

I agree.

Also, Chris Herrington reported that on his Twitter last night.

Yes, that's definitely a small price to pay for that amount of salary relief.

Not to mention we likely don't have roster slots for 2nd rounders.

We have 9 first round picks over the next couple of years. Its hard to find roster spots for that many young players on guaranteed contracts alone. Guys in 2nd round won't have that much of a chance.

I don't mind so much, but its not much as a steal ppl think, jj reddick a similar player fetched harris and then bledsoe, similar offensive numbers

http://www.boxscoregeeks.com/players/246-j-j-redick

http://www.boxscoregeeks.com/players/104-courtney-lee

and lee way more athletic and a better defender.

I in favour of the trade anyway as we had no use for lee, makes us worse which is what is needed

I liked the colored shot charts.

Bayless apparently puts the "shooting" in shooting guard.

BTW, has there been official confirmation of this deal? I haven't seen anything, even though everyone says it's happening/happened.

Edit: ask, and ye shall receive:

Don't expect the #celtics-#grizzlies deal to go through until late this afternoon

It can take up to 48 hours for trades to become official, due to medical reports, contract specifics, etc.

Redick did not fetch Bledsoe.  Redick plus Milwaukee's willingness to take on Caron Butler's contract fetched Milwaukee a few partially protected second rounders.  Jared Dudley fetched Bledsoe.

I guess this makes his Boston career cost two 2nd-rounders total. We used the 2nd rounder we got from OKC from the Jeff Green thing to get Lee in the first place, and now apparently have traded another one to get rid of him.

Funny thing about the OKC second rounder that I just realized, OKC ended up getting it back in the Harden trade. The More You Know™.

You should check out the Rondo pick. We got it from the Lakers in the Payton trade, sent it to Atl in the Antoine trade, Atl sent it to Phoenix in the Johnson trade and we got it back from Phoenix.

I have seen it reported both ways, that the second rounder is coming or going from Boston.  My guess is Boston is actually GETTING a second rounder.

But let's not get too excited.  It is almost certainly one of those heavily protected ones that will never actually change hands.

This would just be a necessity to make the deal work with Memphis using a TPE to absorb Lee.  It is a quirk of the CBA, that if you are using a TPE, you still have send out something in return for the player...and Bayless wouldn't count, because he is essentially in a separate trade from Memphis' end.

Assuming that it is a 2016 2nd rounder, it would be Toronto's pick, or some protected version of it, as Memphis' is ticketed for Dallas.
