It was the morning of a 2010 playoff game, and one of the Nuggets had just smoked some nuggets. As the team practiced, the player was so high that Rex Chapman, a team executive at the time, said he had to pull the player aside to get him to focus.

"Across all walks of life and in every profession, people smoke (marijuana). This is no secret, and pro sports are not exempt," said Chapman, who played 12 years in the NBA. "But employers deserve and pay for A-plus employees. There is a time and place for everything. As a member of a team, guys owe it to their teammates to put their best foot forward."

Ron Artest got on the media team bus to get to a Rockets playoff game in his underwear. He'd missed the early bus that the majority of other players typically use.

This is probably not that rare.

This.

You shouldn't be stoned on the job, at any job, but this certainly isn't shocking news.

I'm not saying that this was a startling revelation. I was just merely curious whom the people would pick given the roster at that time  ;D

Might just as easily have been Birdman or Balkman. But J.R. would be my guess too. Knucklehead.

No different than if a guy showed up for work drunk, in this case a NBA practice, it's just not the right thing to be doing.

JR smith is whom I'd bet on being the culprit.  Past history and all.

Wow, the Nuggets had the all-knucklehead team back in 2010.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I would say it's exceptionally common.

A couple times here in Seattle I'd wait outside the Key Arena players exit after the game with kids.  SOmetimes the players would stop their cars on their way out to sign a few autographs.

One time Jelani McCoy pulled out in an SUV... opened his window and tons of smoke came streaming out.  Desmond Mason was laying down in the back seat.

I think most of them smoke weed.  Also, in the mid 90s a couple different people told me that Sam Perkins smoked crack at Gary Payton's house.  I assumed it was just a rumor... and then later Shawn Kemp was caught with crack... so it made the whole Perkins thing a lot more plausible.

When I first heard this story, I immediately suspected Balkman.
