What's his status? This could be huge. I don't want anyone's career out in jeopardy but if he has to miss three months like with his pec then we could potentially have two top 10 picks in the 2014 draft.

I could see any of Boston, Atlanta, or Brooklyn missing the playoffs, but not all three of them, which that scenario would require.

with Lopez out, Brooklyn missing the playoffs is virtually a lock. Boston missing the playoffs is very likely. If Horford is out, then this scenario is realistic

It will be interesting to see what the C's do moving forward. Rondo is out until February, and we still have moveable parts. The likelihood of us landing two lottery picks just skyrocketed. It should become very interesting the kinds of offers that we get now before the trade deadline. I'm sure Ainge will be receiving tons of calls.

Yes, calls for our expiring contracts (Bogans, Hump) and possible deals involving bigger name players. We could take back a substantial player while unloading some garbage onto a team with the picks that we have lined up. I don't foresee Brooklyn or Atlanta being playoff teams, as a previous poster mentioned. This give us tons of leverage in any kind of potential deal.

I haven't read through this entire thread but I wonder when some scrutiny is going to come of Horford for possible PED use. He rips his pectoral muscle on his left side and then within 18 months rips the pectoral muscle on his right side in what looked like a fairly tame contact play?

The NBA has the most lackadaisical PED policy amongst the 4 major professional sports in America and injuries like this just smack of PED use. When is someone in the media going to start asking questions?

It is looking like Al is out for the season. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Celtics and Hawks were riding high, and having an impactful 2014 draft was in question. With the Celtics facing a tougher schedule, Lopez out, and Horford out, it is bringing new hope. Where do you think the Celtics will pick this year with our own pick and the Brooklyn/Atlanta pick?

I agree with you, nick.

The cynic in me, though, says that there is far too much $$$ involved for anyone to delve into this in a serious, comprehensive manner.

Imagine the hit the business that is the NBA would take if its star players especially (for example, the "Best basketball player on the planet", you know, the 280 lb guy who is as fast as a dear, and outruns and out jumps everyone and recovers incredibly quickly from the very infrequent injury) were caught "cheating".

Sadly, not only do people look the other way, but I've seen many fans, even on this board, defend PED use as making the game more entertaining.

Very sad indeed.

The battlecry should be "PEDs for all" OR "PEDs for none" (my strong preference). This PED stuff starts for a lot of these kids in high school.

Ainge should make a run at Horford.

Hawks might consider rebuilding this summer if they got a strong enough offer. If the Hawks start losing (especially if they trade Millsap too) and the Nets continue to lose, Danny could offer the Nets pick and give Atlanta two top ten picks to rebuild around this summer. Cap flexibility with Humphries. Plus some collection of future picks. Ainge could make a very strong offer.

Horford (C) would be fantastic alongside Sully (PF) and Rondo (PG).

Even without Horford the Hawks will make the playoffs guys...You realize that this is the eastern conference right? only 3 teams are above .500 including the hawks. For them to miss the playoffs they'd also need to lose Williams, Teague, or Millsap.

Let's help ATL get 2 top-10 pix on great draft and take injury prone centre who's not a real centre. Great idea.
