context be [dang]ed... that's hilarious. Really fits into the perception of Morey as some guy who is trying to create a "star' asset out of an overpaid role player.
Asik is not overpaid. Want to see an overpaid center, check out Andrew Bogut.
Why is Bogut your example? Bogut is better than Asik at basically everything.
Because Bogut is currently collecting $14 million to be... well, a nice role player for the Warriors. And he's a great example of someone hilariously overpaid for his current level of production. $14 million get you Marc Gasol, Aldridge, or Brook Lopez in today's NBA, not a guy who gives you 8 points and 10 boards in 27 minutes.
The most hilarious part may be that he recently signed an extension which may be fit for Andrew Bogut circa 09-10, except he may not ever be back to that level.
8/10 is not far off from what Tyson Chandler puts up, and he makes the same money. Nobody seems to think he is wildly overpaid.
He could have been a perennial all-star center but injuries derailed him. He got traded to a team that (rightfully) asks him to do limited duties, such as rebound, block shots, and catch lobs. He's doing just that pretty well.
He may be overpaid, but there are many others who are equally if not more so, with much less talent or upside.
