So we don't actually have the Nets picks -- the Hawks do?

I was looking into the Celtics future picks, and it looks like the Hawks have the right to swap with the Nets in 2014 and 2015.  So essentially even if the Nets win the lottery, the Hawks would swoop in and steal our prize.  Is this true??  Why did we make that deal, if we knew that was in place?

Someone please explain it to me.  Because the Nets have been unexpectedly bad and the Celtics unexpectedly good.  I was hoping we could get into the lottery through the Nets, but now... draft plans aborted??

Doesn't matter anyways.  Brooklyn will make the playoffs.  Both our picks will be in the 15-25 range unless the leastern conference has a miraculous turnaround and we surprisingly fall out of the playoffs

These picks have very little value.  No way the nets rebuild under Prokhorov. Only way we get any value out of them is if they sustain a major injury.

The 19th + 20th picks combined can probably allow us to move up to like 12th overall.  One of the teams that wasn't expecting to be as bad as they are (Lakers, Minn, Memphis) will all draft around there and they have cheap owners.  They may want two players on cheap contracts instead of one, or may do one of our players + the lower of our two picks for a pick in the low teens.  This is Danny's specialty, if anything

Can you please tell Chris Mannix this?  Apparently he wasn't aware of this, as he said "you can't give up that Brooklyn pick this year, as they may be lottery bound".  smh.  What an idiot!

My guess is that you're looking at being able to move up 2-4 spots, based on past draft day trades.

Usually, the trade is because you are in love with a specific player who you think is going to be taken by the team drafting 17th or 18th, so you try to leap-frog them by finding a team just ahead that doesn't feel strongly about any player who won't be available before the 20th pick rolls around.

They have 9 wins and Box Score Geeks would have them at 11 wins through 25 games, using the pessimistic prediction.  If you chalk the difference up to unexpected levels of injury and variance due to small sample size, you could say they expected that the Nets could (not would) be this bad and this is the low end of the range of how Brooklyn would play.

They also predicted the Celtics with 39.4 wins and the 8th seed and gave the Hawks only a 10.7% chance of ending up in the lottery (30.7% for Brooklyn).

My guess is that you're looking at being able to move up 2-4 spots, based on past draft day trades.

This isn't necessarily true. We moved up from #16 to #13 this year by only throwing in two 2nd round picks (really just one since we picked up Iverson for cash). It was even more impressive since we moved into the lottery.

It will be interesting to see what happens to our team by next draft day.
