Nope.

triple sign
put melo in the josh smith category
why isn't he better?
i'll take the team play of jeff green, good all around game over the superior scoring of the ball stopping out of shape, poor defending carmelo

So you take 2nd round exits for the next 4 years? You take the Joe Johnson/Josh Smith Hawks route? NO THANKS.
For the record, Melo is about the same level of talent as Paul Pierce... except that he's never missed the playoffs and Pierce toiled away on losing teams until KG arrived in Boston.  Both had their fair share of temper tantrums and "bad apple" labels.

Melo's bad rep is silly.  He's the same age as Pierce was when the saviors (KG and Ray) turned us into a brief contender.

I agree, the bad rep is STUPID and unwarranted. There is NO ONE ELSE TO GET. People keep saying Top 5 player, but you know what there isn't anyone else out there that even has the potential to be a top 5 player...EXCEPT...YUP...MELO!

I said nope because there isn't a feasible path for Melo to come to Boston. If he's leaving NY he's doing it via FA, and the C's don't have cap space to sign him.

The idea that we "have" to get him because he's the only "top 5" guy available isn't how it works. The C's might need his offensive talent, but it takes more than a need to make an acquisition to happen.

Cosign, again.

The money doesn't work. Melo isn't going to sign a $10 million deal or less to play in Boston.

Really though if Boston lands Asik, you now have two guys in our starting lineup who are poor offensive players (Rondo and Asik).  I don't trust that Green, Bradley and Sully can carry an offensive load.  You almost need an elite scorer like Melo to score 30+ a night.  The team's identity would still be great defense.  Rondo, Bradley and Asik are really good defenders.  Sully shows potential.  Just need someone to consistently drop 30 a night if you're going to play 3 vs 5 on offense.

Or turn the other team over and control the boards and score a bunch in transition.

Green, Humphries, and a first for Melo if we trade Bass, Lee and a first for Asik.

Lineup looks like:

Asik/Vitor
Sullinger/Olynyk
Melo/Wallace
Bradley/Crawford
Rondo/Pressey

Looks like a contender to me.

I don't think Green is an all around better player than melo, green defends well and has a occasionaly great scoring outburst. Melo doesnt have the defense but hes a far superior rebounder, at the same time hes a much better scorer.

So i guess it depends on what you mean by all around, I think rebounding counts towards being an all around player as well.

Thing is, you're probably not ever fielding that lineup with a Melo trade, since I can't see how Green, Humphries, and a first alone get it done.  The Knicks would only trade Melo if they realized it wasn't feasible to keep him around, but they'd need something to rebuild with beyond a first-round pick and an expiring contract; Green isn't going to be the guy they'd rebuild around.

I'm with Fafnir.

Someone else said it in another thread--the biggest problem with getting 'Melo is the cost of getting 'Melo.

I'd do Wallace + Green, and that's about it. In theory that plus a bundle of picks gets it done if Melo gets really disgruntled.

This is an interesting idea, I do believe if we get asik something else HAS to happen, otherwise it makes no sense.

Right now NY doesn't own a lot of their picks, I believe they don't have many over the next few years.

So this deal would be entirely contingent on Melo forcing his way out of NY for one reason or another, because otherwise its a completely one sided deal.

NY has also been surrounded by rumors that they don't want shumpert, again I'm not exactly sure why but I've heard many times NY wants him gone.

This is my first try at a trade, so would this be a realistic deal when you combine it with all three of our brooklyn picks?

NY receives : Green, Bradley, humphries plus brooklyns 3 1sts

Boston receives : Melo, Shumpert

NY gets a lot of picks, green and Bradley.

Boston replaces bradley who wants too much $$ in the offseason and replaces him with shumpert.

Again, this deal is 100% contingent on Melo forcing his way out of NY as well as NY wanting to deal Shumpert. If neither of those rumors are true then the Knicks laugh and hang up the phone.

No. No. No. I will not give up our picks and brooklyn's picks (our future) for Melo; Green/Bradley > Shumpert/Melo;

I say DA pays Bradley $7.5Mn-$8Mn per year this offseason and crawford gets $5Mn;

Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Well first of all I never said we'd give up our own pick. Second of all I have to disagree if you think green/bradley is better than shumpert/melo.

Melo is a far superior player to green and I feel Shumpert and bradley are a wash considering bradleys height. I don't think he has as high a ceiling as some around here.

Plus we would have

Rondo/JC/Pressy
Shump/JC/Brooks/Bogans
Melo/Wallace
Sully/Olynk
Asik/Fav

I believe this team has a good mix of shooting, a great mix of rebounding (top 5 rebounding potential) and a few nice defenders.

If we aren't going to tank I think this is the best we can do for a quick turnaround and compete. I honestly believe this team makes us very competitive in a series vs MIA or IND.

A lot of it relies on Sully to continue to be average roughly 15-18 pts and 7-10 rebounds per game. Which I view as realistic.
